"Madonna in a Fur Coat is a 1943 novel telling the story of a shy young man named Raif who travels to 1920s Berlin and falls on love with a half-Jewish artist named Maria Puder. The novel explores themes of love, alienation and
human soul against the backdrop of interwar Berlin." It became a best seller in Turkey and is considered a classic of Turkish literature.
