Abstract: William will take you behind the scenes of his short film Medicine. Shot entirely on location in rural India, the film tells the story of two backpackers on a transformative bus journey and has screened at over 50 international festivals, earning multiple accolades, including Best Short Form at the 2024 Asian Academy Creative Awards. In this session, McKegg will share insights into the creative process, challenges of shooting in an international setting, assembling a diverse cast and crew, and the strategies that brought this globally resonant story to life. Attendees will gain a rare glimpse into the making of a short film that blends authentic storytelling, cultural collaboration, and cinematic craft.

Title: Navigating Innovation in Payments and Identity
Abstract: Commerce and banking have long been effective adopters of technology, building large-scale, reliable, safe and secure systems, trusted by a vast majority of the population. Adapting to ever-increasing waves of innovation and change is a particular strategic challenge when payments are typically fuelled by large-scale and sometimes slow-moving and inflexible legacy systems. Navigating change in this context demands an adaptive approach to change, and a shift away from ‘traditional’ systems design, especially when it comes to increasingly sophisticated threats in the form of fraud and scams.
This session explores some of the key paradigm shifts in payments technology; from digital identity and digital public infrastructure to adaptive fraud detection and prevention to the role of Fintechs and innovators, along with the very human concerns of trust, privacy, accessibility and equity.
