SHL Movie Club: The Amateur
Details
Come see The Amateur with your humanist friends! We are going to the 12:15 showing at Citadel Mall Stadium 16 Theater.
The Amateur stars Rami Malek as Charlie Heller, a brilliant yet introverted CIA cryptographer whose life is shattered when his wife, Sarah (Rachel Brosnahan), is killed in a terrorist attack in London. Frustrated by the agency's refusal to act, Charlie uncovers a covert operation involving politically motivated drone strikes disguised as suicide bombings.Determined to seek justice, he blackmails his superiors into providing him with field training, transforming from a desk-bound analyst into a resourceful operative. Guided by his mentor, Colonel Robert Henderson (Laurence Fishburne), Charlie embarks on a global manhunt, employing his intellect and newfound skills to dismantle the network responsible for his wife's death. The film, directed by James Hawes and based on Robert Littell's 1981 novel, delves into themes of personal vengeance, institutional corruption, and the moral complexities of justice.
You can use the link below to purchase tickets. Tickets are assigned seating, and Tucker and Charles have purchased seats E4 and E5. Sit wherever you like, but we encourage you to check the comments below to see which seats your SHL friends have purchased, and buy seats next to them, in front of them, behind them, near them… then post your seat choice in the comments below.
After the movie those who wish will be going to Taste of Thai, located at 874 Orleans Rd in West Ashley (very close to the theater), for drinks, food and to discuss the film. If you don't want to attend the showing, feel free to join us to discuss the film afterwards. We should get there a little before 2:30 pm depending on the number of commercials and previews. If you want to reach out to me ahead of time, I'd be happy to text you when we leave the theater. Please just let me know so I can try to get a big enough table.
