The Friendly Infidels Movie Club: The Roses

Come see the film The Roses with your non-religious friends from the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry (SHL)! We are going to the 11:10 am showing at the Regal Palmetto Grande theater in Mt Pleasant.

The Roses (2025) is a darkly funny reimagining of The War of the Roses (1989), with Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman starring as Theo and Ivy, a picture-perfect couple whose marriage combusts when his career collapses just as her culinary ambitions take off. What begins as brittle banter escalates into gleeful, gloves-off warfare, blending bite, style, and two powerhouse performances.

After the movie those who wish will be going to lunch at P.F. Chang's located at 1885 N Highway 17, near the theater, for drinks, food and to discuss the film. If you don't want to attend the showing, feel free to join us to discuss the film afterwards. We should get there around 1:15 pm, depending on the number of commercials and previews. If you want to reach out to me ahead of time, I'd be happy to text you when we leave the theater. Please just let me know so I can try to get a big enough table.

Tickets bought online are almost $15, which includes a $2/ticket online booking fee. It is probably cheaper to buy tickets at the theater.

The running time for the film is 1:45 plus or minus commercials and previews.

Movie Selection:
The SHL Movie club normally meets on the first Sunday of the month. Films are usually chosen by a ranked choice vote. An email with the voting link is sent to the movie club mailing list about 10 days before the film. If you are not on the movie club mailing list, but would like to vote on future film selections email shl@lowcountryhumanists.org and ask to be added to the list.
