The Friendly Infidels Movie Club: One Battle After Another

Come see the film One Battle After Another with your non-religious friends from the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry (SHL)! We are going to the 4:30 pm showing at the Citadel Stadium 16 theater in West Ashley.

One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, is a politically charged action thriller that blends dark humor with social commentary. The film follows Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a disillusioned former revolutionary living off-grid with his daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti). Their peaceful life is shattered when their old nemesis, Colonel Steven Lockjaw (Sean Penn), resurfaces, leading Bob to confront his past and fight to rescue Willa. Set in a fictionalized America grappling with authoritarianism, the movie critiques systemic abuses and white supremacy, portraying political struggle as a continuous, exhausting defense rather than a conclusive victory.

After the movie those who wish will be going to dinner at Santi’s Restaurante Mexicano located at 1660 Savannah Hwy in West Ashley for drinks, food and to discuss the film. If you don't want to attend the showing, feel free to join us to discuss the film afterwards. We should get there around 7:30 pm, depending on the number of commercials and previews. Movie Selection:
The SHL Movie club normally meets on the first Sunday of the month. Films are usually chosen by a ranked choice vote. An email with the voting link is sent to the movie club mailing list about 10 days before the film. If you are not on the movie club mailing list, but would like to vote on future film selections email shl@lowcountryhumanists.org and ask to be added to the list.
