On Sat May 2, humanists across the country are joining together for the American Empathy Project — one national day of action to show that care beats cruelty. Here in Charleston, Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry and Lowcountry Period Pixies are putting that into action by assembling 250+ period packs for students in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties.

Why does this matter? 1 in 4 women and girls can't afford period products, which can't be purchased with SNAP or WIC benefits and are rarely donated to food banks. Many miss school or work because of it. These packs provide dignity — and prevent the health risks that come with using unsafe alternatives.

What will we be doing? We'll be assembling period packs containing pads, liners, and wipes, which will be distributed to public school students across the tri-county area. It's meaningful work that makes a real difference — and a great way to meet your fellow Lowcountry humanists!

Can I bring something? Yes, please! We gratefully accept individually wrapped maxi pads, liners, and hygiene wipes. Bring some along if you wish — every item helps us assemble more packs.
Can't make it but want to help?
