Watercolor Day: A Beginner-Friendly Watercolor Workshop
Tue, Jul 28, 5:00 PMThis course covers the fundamentals of typography—presented in an accessible, practical way with plenty of room for drawing and experimentation. We view type not merely as text, but as form: What is the visual impact of a letter? Why does a typeface appear elegant, playful, bold, or understated? What makes type easy to read? And how can it become part of a drawing, a card, or a small design project? Together, we will explore the visual impact of type, letterforms, spacing, rhythm, composition, and the interplay between typography and illustration. Step by step, you will learn to observe letters more consciously, arrange words more harmoniously, and intentionally incorporate type into your own creative projects. The course takes place in a small group to ensure ample time for individual guidance, questions, and personal feedback. The focus is not on perfection or rigid rules, but on developing a keen eye, enjoying the creative process, and completing a small final project of your own. **Course content:** • Observing and understanding type more consciously • The differences between typography, lettering, calligraphy, and handwriting • Viewing letters as drawn forms • Fundamentals of letter anatomy • Spacing, rhythm, and white space • The visual impact of type and appropriate design choices • Small typographic compositions • Combining type and illustration • Developing a small personal project **About the instructor:** Antje Schubert is an illustrator, designer, and the founder of *süssmädchen.* For over a decade, she has been personalizing jewelry and accessories by hand, working daily with letters, words, and short messages. Through her professional work and personal drawing practice, she has developed a keen sense of the expressive power of type—conveyed through form, line, spacing, composition, and overall impact. Drawing is at the heart of her workshop: letters are not just observed but understood as forms, sketched, experimented with, and developed further through design. Who is this workshop for? This course is designed for anyone who enjoys drawing, designing, keeping a sketchbook, creating cards, or simply appreciates beautiful lettering—or for those who want to incorporate typography more intentionally into their creative work. It offers a practical, accessible approach with plenty of room to experiment. No prior experience is required! Everything is explained step-by-step. You don’t need to be an expert at drawing or have perfect handwriting; all that matters is curiosity, a passion for design, and a willingness to experiment. By the end, you will take home new foundational skills, practical exercises, greater confidence in working with lettering, and a small typographic piece of your own creation. **[Get your tickets (€29) here!](https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/typoworkshop/29)**

What’s your Thing? #001
Wed, Jul 22, 4:30 PM**Meet the people behind Berlin’s independent products, projects and businesses!** For **#001** — the first edition of ***What’s Your Thing?*** — we’re welcoming **Irina Hefner** ([@irinahefner](https://www.instagram.com/irinahefner/?utm_source=luma)) artist, designer and founder of **VENDE**. A graduate of weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, Irina creates one-off garments and sculptural pieces that explore identity, sustainability and the value we place on the things we own. Through upcycling, unconventional materials and slow production, her work challenges the idea of clothing as something disposable. Expect an evening of **Show & Tell**, followed by a live conversation about building an independent creative practice, audience questions and good company. Together we’ll explore the thinking behind Irina’s projects, the realities of making work outside the commercial system, and what it means to build a label slowly, intentionally and on your own terms. Whether you’re building something yourself or simply curious about the people behind Berlin’s creative scene, What’s Your Thing? is an opportunity to hear the stories, ideas and obsessions that don’t usually make it onto Instagram. Stay afterwards for drinks, conversation and a browse through the Things showroom. **what is things?** [Things](https://workish.berlin/things?utm_source=luma) was created to make space for creative encounters in person. Based at workish.berlin, a creative coworking space & maker lab in Neukölln, it’s a platform to discover the people, products and projects shaping Berlin’s independent creative scene. Started by Lenny, Taylor and Ami, Things began as a marketplace for independent makers, a place to show, sell and celebrate small-run products, creative experiments and personal projects. As the community has grown, so has the idea. Alongside the evolving display, Things now hosts curated talks, meet-ups and creative experiences that bring people together through creativity, conversation and collaboration. *Like to make things? [Apply here](https://workish.berlin/make-things?utm_source=luma) to submit your thing to the marketplace or speak at an upcoming event.* **About the Host** Ami Jessica Runge is a Berlin-based creative generalist working across design, strategy and storytelling. Influenced by a background in Critical Design, she is interested in design not only as a tool for communication, but as a way of questioning systems, encouraging participation and creating meaningful experiences. She collaborates with cultural institutions, nonprofits and growing brands to create thoughtful, idea-led work that’s both playful and purposeful. Alongside client work, Ami enjoys creating small capsule collections and self-initiated creative experiments, an interest that naturally led to co-creating Things and, now, *What’s Your Thing? #001*: a conversation series celebrating the people behind Berlin’s independent products, projects and businesses.
