London Local Filmmakers Collective (LLFC) — Kickoff Cocktails and More!

Sat, Jun 13, 6:30 PM
From London Local Filmmakers Collective

We’re kicking off the very first **London Local Film Collective** **(LLFC)** meetup at **The Cocktail Club Monument** on **June 13**. We’ll meet at **7:30 PM**, with more details and exact meetup instructions to come closer to the day. It is a perfect spot to gather, talk shop, and get to know each other before we start making all kinds of brilliant low-budget chaos together. You can check out the venue before the meetup:[ ](https://www.thecocktailclub.com/bars/monument?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=gbp&utm_campaign=homepage)**[Here.](https://www.thecocktailclub.com/bars/monument?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=gbp&utm_campaign=homepage)**[ ](https://www.thecocktailclub.com/bars/monument?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=gbp&utm_campaign=homepage)The bar is at **Monument, 2B Eastcheap, London EC3M 1AE**. Located in King William House. **A quick RSVP note: We will be making reservations the night before. Because this venue is reservation-based, please do not RSVP yes unless you’re fairly certain you can attend. If something comes up, please update your RSVP as soon as possible and let us know. More than two no-shows will result in removal from the group. No villain arc, just logistics.** This first meetup is all about connection. Come by, have a drink, meet other filmmakers, and tell us what you’re working on — whether that’s a short film, a documentary, a script, a micro-budget feature, a half-finished idea living in your Notes app, or a project you’d love to jump onto with other people. Directors, actors, writers, cinematographers, editors, photographers, animators, and curious *“I know I want in, I just don’t know where yet”* people are all welcome. We’ll meet at **7:30 PM**, and I’ll send more details and meetup instructions closer to the day. Let’s make some cool stuff together!

Black Swan is a 2010 American psychological horror thriller film directed by Darren Aronofsky from a screenplay by Mark Heyman, John McLaughlin, and Andres Heinz, based on a story by Heinz. The film stars Natalie Portman in the lead role, with Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey, and Winona Ryder in supporting roles. The plot revolves around a production of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake by the company of New York City Ballet. The production requires a ballerina to play the innocent and fragile White Swan, for which the committed dancer Nina Sayers (Portman) is a perfect fit, as well as the dark and sensual Black Swan, which are qualities better embodied by the new rival Lily (Kunis). Nina is overwhelmed by a feeling of immense pressure when she finds herself competing for the role, causing her to lose her tenuous grip on reality and descend into madness. The film received five nominations at the 83rd Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Aronofsky), with Portman winning Best Actress; it also received four nominations at the 68th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director (Aronofsky), with Portman winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. In 2021, Portman's performance was included in The New Yorker's list of the best film performances of the 21st century. Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion. It’s not a screening. We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema. Nightcrawler is a 2014 American neo-noir satirical thriller film written and directed by Dan Gilroy in his directorial debut. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as an unhinged stringer who seeks out violent and morbid events late at night in Los Angeles so he can film them and sell the exclusive footage to a local television news station. The supporting cast includes Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed, and Bill Paxton. It was met with widespread praise, especially Gilroy's screenplay and the performances of Gyllenhaal and Russo. Several critics listed Nightcrawler as one of the best films of 2014 and it received various accolades, including a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the 87th Academy Awards. Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion.
