From Nomad House Barcelona

**Friday = Poker Night at Nomad House. ♠️** Every Friday, we'll have **two Texas Hold'em tables** running alongside a relaxed social evening at the bar. Come to play poker, grab a drink, meet some people, practice a language or simply **switch off after the working week**. **New in Barcelona?** You'll find a mix of newcomers, internationals and locals, so the evening is as much about meeting people as it is about the cards. And you absolutely **don't need to play poker** to join. The rest of the space stays open for drinks, conversations and socialising while the games are running. *And here is, of course, the ChatGPT-esque list for those who skipped everything above:* ♠️ Two Texas Hold'em tables 🍻 Bar & drinks 💬 Social & language exchange 🌍 Newcomers, internationals & locals 🎟️ **FREE ENTRY** Entrance is free. If you're joining us, we simply ask that you **grab a drink or two from the bar to help support the venue and keep nights like this free.** **Important:** This is social poker. **No real-money gambling.** Poker is played with chips for entertainment only. Whether you're coming for the cards or simply looking for a relaxed Friday evening after work, we'll see you at Nomad House. \~ Milliardo

Access to universal basic income is thought by some experts to help resolve many of today's global issues: from poverty, to crime, to human rights violations and even the climate crisis. This talk, organized by [Clamour BCN](https://www.instagram.com/clamourbcn/), will delve deep into the topic and explore why universal basic income could be a mechanism for guaranteeing basic freedoms in an era of growing inequalities and injustices. Joining Backstory Bookshop for this conversation will be **David Casassas** and **Julie Wark**. **David** is an associate professor at the University of Barcelona, where he teaches social and political theory. He was Secretary of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN) and is now a member of its International Advisory Board. He is the author of *Unconditional Freedom: Universal Basic Income and Social Power.* [Buy the book here!](https://backstorybookshop.shop/product/unconditional-freedom/) **Julie** is the author of *The Human Rights Manifesto*, co-author of *Indonesia: Law, Propaganda, and Terror, and Against Charity*, and the European correspondent for CounterPunch.

Backstory Talks: The Hidden Climate Footprint of Your Everyday Life

Backstory Talks: The Hidden Climate Footprint of Your Everyday Life

Fri, Oct 16, 4:00 PM
From Backstory English Bookshop - Events

We rarely think about our carbon footprint before 9am — the shower, the coffee, the commute, the scroll. But an ordinary day is full of small, invisible choices that add up to something much bigger. In this talk, Cristina McLauchlan walks us hour by hour through a typical day in Barcelona — from waking to sleeping — uncovering the climate impact hidden inside our everyday routines. Drawing on her background in wellness and yoga philosophy, she reframes climate awareness not as guilt or overwhelm, but as presence: the simple practice of noticing what we usually sleep through. Expect real, relatable moments (yes, your shower length counts), a few surprising stats, and practical, doable shifts — no eco-anxiety, no lectures, just an honest look at one day. Part of Barcelona Climate Week 2026. Discussion and Q&A to follow. **About the host:** Cristina McLauchlan is a Barcelona-based events and wellness professional with 15+ years of international experience spanning conservation, sustainability, and human connection. She has worked with Plastic Oceans, contributing to campaigns tackling ocean plastic pollution, and represented these issues on the global stage at the UN Ocean Conference. She has also facilitated campaigns addressing the fashion industry's environmental footprint, working at the intersection of consumer behaviour and climate impact.
