Intermediate Spanish Classes (In-Person)

**In this class, we will explore the Spanish language through 8 modules. We will be speaking from Day 1, and covering concepts which assume you have a basic understanding.** **The goal is that by the end of the series, you should be able to engage in simple and structured conversations. This is useful for dating, business trips and getting around a Spanish-speaking country.** **Weekly homework is required and active participation is also required of all participants. The classes are a 4-part series, and all 4 classes are mandatory to attend.** **Note that these classes are not free.** Classes will be held in-person at Mississauga Valley Community Centre from 6:40pm to 7:40pm weekly. **Important: you must have the ability to speak in Spanish with proper pronunciation.** \- Most instruction throughout this series will be in Spanish\. \- A DoGood Spanish Beginner Class is a recommended prerequisite\. \- However\, if you can engage in basic conversational Spanish\, we will welcome you\! Frequently Asked Questions: **Do the classes have a cost?** Yes, classes have a reasonable cost and can be paid through eventbrite.com or in cash. **What should I bring?** A water bottle, snack, notebook and pen, and a Spanish-speaker mindset. We encourage participants to only speak Spanish during class. **Is free parking available?** Yes, the Community Centre has ample parking, and is very accessible by transit. **Can I bring my kids?** Absolutely not, this is an adult class. The themes are fast-paced and we want all participants to feel comfortable. We can make exceptions for teenagers who are well-versed in Spanish. **What if I miss a class?** It is recommended that you attend all four (4) classes in the series. We can make a rare exception and offer a paid, Zoom class, for extreme circumstances.

Salmons are expected to be swimming upstream. An annual upward migration. We will spend some time to watch at a few spots and then continue with our walk and return back to the starting point. We will wait until 3:10pm and start walking. If you arrive late, pls follow the Humber River Trail heading north and you can catch up with the group. # 🐟 Salmon Run at Humber River & James Gardens 🍂 ### An Easy Fall Walk — With a Pretty Amazing Natural Show Along the Way Every fall, something incredible happens right here in Toronto. Salmon make their way upstream through the **Humber River**, battling rapids and leaping through the water as they return to freshwater to spawn. And yes — you can actually see them doing it. Join us for a relaxed, social walk along the Humber River during salmon run season. We'll spend about 30 minutes by the river watching for salmon before continuing along the trail toward **James Gardens**. This isn't a difficult hike. It's a chance to get outside, enjoy the fall scenery, see something you might not normally experience in the city, and spend some time with other people along the way. ✨ **Fun Fact:** Some salmon travel more than 3,000 km from the Atlantic Ocean to reach freshwater rivers like the Humber. After all that distance, they still have to battle rapids and leap over obstacles to reach their spawning grounds. Along the way we'll: * Walk along the Humber River * Stop for approximately 30 minutes to look for salmon * Watch the salmon making their way upstream * Continue along the river toward James Gardens * Take a break at **James Gardens** * Enjoy the fall scenery and take some photos * Make our way back toward the station The walk is approximately **90 minutes**, depending on the pace of the group and how long we spend watching the salmon. And remember — **the salmon are wild animals.** We can't guarantee exactly how many we'll see, or how long they'll put on a show. That's part of the fun! *** ## 🍂 Why Come? The salmon run is one of those strange little Toronto experiences that you can easily miss if you don't know when and where to look. One minute you're walking through the city. We’ll be heading to beautiful **Doors Open Niagara-on-the-Lake** to explore historic buildings, cultural sites, and hidden spaces that are rarely open to the public. Nick has been a **Doors Open Toronto volunteer for over two decades**, and he always enjoys checking out Doors Open events in other cities. Niagara-on-the-Lake is known for its incredible heritage architecture, charming streets, and fascinating history—making it a perfect destination for a Doors Open day trip. *** ### 🏛️ What is Doors Open? If you’ve never attended before, **Doors Open** is a free architectural and cultural event held in communities across Ontario. For one special weekend, cities open the doors to historic buildings, cultural institutions, churches, theatres, and other interesting spaces—many of which are normally closed to the public. Visitors can explore at their own pace, learn about local history, and sometimes go behind the scenes with guided tours or special access.
