Community Meal Service at Good Shepherd (Toronto)
Sun, Aug 23, 5:30 PM✨ **Community Meal Service at Good Shepherd** An opportunity to come together as a group to serve the homeless and those at risk in our community. **Registration** Toronto Joy is now using our website as the main place to stay connected and register for events. **To attend this event, please visit:** [https://torontojoy.org](https://torontojoy.org/) *After completing the quick registration, please select this specific event. This helps us prepare, stay connected, and make sure everything is organized for everyone attending.* *** During our recent sessions, we served meals, chopped veggies, made sandwiches, and helped prepare pasta. Each session is similar, but the tasks may vary depending on what is needed that day (e.g., sorting food). We had a great time serving together with lots of smiles, laughter, and good energy. Every session gives us an opportunity to come together, support the community, and share meaningful moments while serving alongside one another. *** **Only 6 spots are available.** If you sign up, please do so with the intention of attending, as the organization relies on our numbers for planning. We will send a reconfirmation message closer to the date, and if any spots become available, we will reach out to those on the waiting list. *** **Arrival Information** When you arrive at Reception, the staff will guide you to the volunteer room, where you can place your belongings in a locker and meet the group. Below are simple guidelines on what to wear, safety, and other things to know: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1piAyloECv9YUDkPJuoJBdCmh3x8n1un1rGvJSFIkbs4/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1piAyloECv9YUDkPJuoJBdCmh3x8n1un1rGvJSFIkbs4/edit?usp=sharing) *** **Good to know:** • Closed-toe shoes are required. • Tie back long hair and wear minimal jewelry. • Water will be provided, but feel free to bring your own bottle if you prefer. • **Please arrive by** **1:40 PM at the latest** so we can plan who will be doing which roles and begin together. • If you can’t make it due to an emergency, please message me as soon as possible 🙏 Grateful to serve alongside you.

Making the case for service design
Fri, Aug 21, 10:30 PMHow do you communicate the value of service design at your workplace? Where does your team stand, **and** what is your role within it? We all know service design creates value, but pinpointing exactly *where* your org stands, and what role you should be playing to move it forward, is a different skill entirely. This session is about getting clearer on that. **Format:** Design jam **What to expect:** * A quick icebreaker * Opening context — a fast recap of the article and why it matters * A spotlight share — one person walks us through where their own org sits on the model, and what that's actually looked like in practice * Main activity — working solo, then in pairs, then as a full table * A quick close — one small thing to try shifting this month **To get ahead:** Read the [Service Design Maturity Model article;](https://service-design-network.org/community_article/the-service-design-maturity-model-a-strategic-framework-to-embed-service-design-into-an-organisation) it's a quick one, and it'll give us a shared language for the night. The model breaks organizational SD maturity into five stages Explore, Prove, Scale, Integrate, Thrive) and tracks how a service designer's role shifts through each: from scout > doer > trainer > facilitator > leader. No need to have it all figured out before you arrive. Just come ready to think out loud with a few new people. See you there!

Avengers’ Saturday Cafe for the Homeless
Sat, Aug 22, 3:00 PMNote: You may be removed from the attendance list if you've participated in the previous week's event. This allows for more people to experience this Meetup. Avengers put your costumes on and let’s go and save the world! Well we can’t save the world (yet), but we aim to try to play a small part in the lives of those experiencing homelessness by making their day a bit better! Description: Before the event the organizer will post a list in the comment section of the attendees and what they are responsible to bring (food/drink, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies). We normally ask each attending member to bring approximately $15-20 worth of ingredients/supplies to our event. We will use the items to prepare and serve food/drink at The Meeting Place. Timeline: We will meet on location at 11:00 am, with lunch served between 12:30-1:00 pm. Membership Dues: Membership dues are $2.00 for the calendar year. Membership dues go towards paying for food/supplies incurred by no-shows. Membership dues are due at the first meetup of the year that you attend. No Shows/Late Un-RSVP: We’re relying on members who RSVP to bring key ingredients for recipes! Please try your best to show-up or alternatively change your RSVP early so another member may fill the empty spot. \*\*\* If you are on the waitlist, keep checking as you may be moved into attendance to replace someone. We will try to message you to confirm your attendance in advance. Donations will be assigned before the event.
