Drunken Philosophy: What’s up with all the AI hate?
Drunken Philosophy: What’s up with all the AI hate?
**Welcome to Drunken Philosophy** a casual, curious social discussion **Optional topic for this meetup: What's up with all the AI hate?** A recent survey found that 74% of Americans have a negative view of AI, and I want to know why. Come out and debate whether AI is good or bad. My hot take: a labor-saving tool that could potentially help cure cancer gets called dangerous because it might raise unemployment or cause a speculative investment bubble, that tells you a lot more about capitalism and the economic system we live under than it does about the tool itself. As a computer programmer, I think AI is a wonderful tool that has increased my productivity by at least an order of magnitude. I'd go so far as to say Claude Code is the best tool I have ever used. Debate me and name a better one. Is AI potentially dangerous? Yes, but so are a lot of tools. Chainsaws. Steam engines (early ones would occasionally explode and kill everyone in the room). Do you think cavemen sat around debating whether fire could be used as a weapon or for self-harm, and decided not to discover it? I have two friends who hate AI for opposite reasons: one thinks it's a fad and not useful, and the other thinks it's going to take over everything and cause human extinction. Come out tonight, have a friendly debate, and make some friends. No lectures. Friendly crowd. Drop in for one drink and stay if it's fun.

The systems that power, move, treat, manufacture, and connect modern life were built for long service lives, slow refresh cycles, and predictable engineering change. The threat is moving much faster than the traditional cycle can accommodate. Cyber operations, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and the accelerating transition to post-quantum cryptography are compressing the time between technical warning and operational consequences. This panel will approach post-quantum readiness through the lens of acceleration, not vocabulary, asking what is changing, why it matters now, and why critical infrastructure cannot treat this as another enterprise IT upgrade. Harvest-now, decrypt-later risk means the distance to “Q-Day” is less important than the sensitivity of the assets. The lifespan of deployed equipment and the time required to migrate cryptography across vendors, embedded devices, control systems, and fielded assets are misaligned. The discussion will translate standards and guidance into decisions for operators, vendors, executives, and boards. NIST, CISA, NSA, CNSA 2.0, and emerging post-quantum guidance are often treated as a reading list; this panel will frame them as governance choices involving inventory, vendor accountability, acquisition deadlines, budget cycles, and operational risk. It will also test where enterprise guidance is useful and where it breaks down in operational technology, embedded systems, long-lifecycle assets, and vendor-dependent environments. Register now! Browsers, Buttons & “Why Isn’t This Working?” — Tech Q&A
Browsers, Buttons & “Why Isn’t This Working?” — Tech Q&A
### **Browsers, Buttons & “Why Isn’t This Working?” — Tech Learning & Help for Real Life - Q&A** **What This Meeting Space Is & Why It Exists** This is an intentionally **judgment-free, human-centered tech help space** designed to meet people exactly where they are — whether they’re brand new to computers, feel “a little behind,” or are simply tired of Googling problems that never seem to match what’s happening on *their* screen. The goal is simple: **remove confusion, reduce frustration, and build confidence with everyday technology.** *** ### **What We Cover** This is not a lecture. It’s intention is to be a **guided, interactive help session** that adapts to real questions and real devices. **Base Education (The Foundations)** * How the internet actually works (in plain English) * What browsers are and how they differ (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) * Understanding buttons, menus, settings, and pop-ups * How to safely navigate websites without fear of “breaking something” **Troubleshooting Common Issues** * “Why won’t this page load?” * “Where did my email go?” * “Why does this look different than yesterday?” * Downloads, updates, logins, passwords, and error messages * Recognizing what’s normal vs what’s a red flag **Personalized Help & Walkthroughs** * Step-by-step guidance on *your* specific issue * Screen-based explanations (what to click, where to look, what to ignore) * Help tailored to your device, comfort level, and goals * No rushing, no tech-shaming, no assumptions *** ### **How This Space Is Different** * **No dumb questions** — ever (unless its from my mouth.... ) * **No jargon without explanation** * **No pressure to “keep up”** * **No one gets left behind** This space acknowledges that technology changes constantly, often without explanation, and that frustration is a normal response — not a personal failure. *** ### **Who This Is For** * Beginners who want a solid foundation * People who “kind of get it” but feel unsure * Anyone overwhelmed by updates, changes, or tech anxiety * Those who want calm, patient help instead of rushed answers ### **The Bigger Purpose** This meeting exists to **empower**, not overwhelm. To turn “I hate technology” into “oh… I actually understand that now.” To replace stress with clarity — one click at a time. You don’t need to prepare. You don’t need to know the right words. You just need to show up. This is tech help — **made REAL**
Quantum Threat Landscape: Where We Stand and How to Prepare
Quantum Threat Landscape: Where We Stand and How to Prepare
Quantum computing is no longer a distant threat. Improvements in hardware design, new algorithmic breakthroughs, and expert surveys now put a cryptographically-relevant quantum computer sooner than the industry is prepared for. Elliptic curve signatures and key exchange, RSA, and many ZK proof systems are vulnerable, where they underpin not just blockchains, but financial infrastructure, identity systems, enterprise software, and the internet itself. However, the industry isn't standing still. In this workshop, Zain Cheng (CTO, Horizen Labs) and Tommaso Gagliardoni (Cryptography Research Manager, Horizen Labs) will give the LFDT community a comprehensive look at where the quantum migration stands today across blockchain ecosystems, traditional finance, government, and enterprise, and what you can do to prepare regardless of the stack you're building on. The Threat Landscape: What quantum computers actually break, and what they don't. Shor's algorithm and elliptic curve cryptography. Grover's algorithm and symmetric/hash security. Why "harvest now, decrypt later" attacks make this urgent right now. **Please note: This event is being shared with our entire global community. If you're interested in this content but can't attend the event live, feel free to sign up and we will send you a link to the recording after the meetup is over.**

**User Guide to the Official A2retrotech Monthly Procedure** **By:** You and the the monthly retrotech meetup **INTRODUCTION** Congratulations! You are the proud new owner of a Retrocomputer!!! **PREFACE** This May-nual our focus is on retrocomputer documentation. We retro people are looking back to the old-school May-nuals! You know, the photocopied 3-ring binders! The plastic circular-bound manuals. From the arcane, serious assembly language references... to the whimsical kid-oriented books that taught us how to write fun programs. The ones a family friend or teacher loaned us, the one we saved up to buy... or maybe they came from another place? Before the great homogenization of computing culture, obtaining manuals was not the predictable process it is today! **SECTION 1: RETROTECH MEETUP PROCEDURE** **Step 1.** RSVP for the Zoom Link **Step 2.** Join the Zoom meeting on May 20, 2026 at 8:00pm EDT **Step 3.** Be prepared to discuss and share your favorite retrocomputing manuals, documentation, tutorials, or job aids! Join us for the evening as we share our stories of how we discovered and use our favorite (and perhaps most frustrating!) computer may-nuals! **APPENDIX** A2 Retro Tech is hosted through All Hands Active.
