Discover the untold global story of art photography.

Light and Magic is the first major exhibition to explore Pictorialism as a global movement. Discover how artists became pioneers of the darkroom, transforming our understanding of photography and image making.

Bringing together over 200 rare prints by over 80 artists from Seoul to Sydney, New York to Cape Town and Brazil to Singapore, this truly international exhibition takes a fresh and inclusive look at the history of photography.

MACS Goes To… Agatha Christie: A World Of Mystery 🔍

Join MACS at the Agatha Christie exhibition at the British Library on Sunday 15th November!

Discover the extraordinary life of the Queen of Crime in ‘Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery’ ✨

From crossing continents by train to navigating archaeological digs, explore how Christie’s adventures sparked unforgettable stories, ideas and characters including Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.

Step into atmospheric spaces inspired by Christie’s world, from a grand country house and WWI dispensary to an Orient Express-style carriage, archaeological dig and West End theatre. Christie fans and aspiring sleuths can hunt for hidden clues and Easter eggs dotted throughout the exhibition.

Drawing on letters, notebooks, photographs, personal belongings, early manuscript drafts and many objects on display for the first time, this landmark exhibition reveals the remarkable life of one of the world’s greatest crime writers.

Items on display will include:

• Christie’s Remington typewriter from 1937, purported to have been used to compose ‘And Then There Were None’ and other works;
• Christie’s notes for the Witness for the Prosecution theatre adaptation;
• typescript of ‘House of Beauty’, Agatha Christie’s first short story written when she was just a teenager;
• Christie’s study notes for her pharmaceutical exam taken in 1917;
• family photographs of Christie in Egypt, Hawaii and Southern Africa ;
• personal letters from Christie to family members, including one to her second husband about her journey on the Orient Express.

Join MACS at the National Theatre for a behind the scenes tour on Saturday 28 November! 🎭

Take a guided tour of the National Theatre and discover the secrets of one of the most iconic buildings on the South Bank.

Led by one of their expert guides, the 75-minute tour takes you on a journey behind the scenes to see what’s being made in their on-site carpentry, props and scenic painting workshops, and discover how they create our world-class productions.

Tour bookers also receive 10% off in the National Theatre Shop. Simply show your tour ticket at the till, valid on the day of your tour.

MACS Goes To… Christmas Market at Valence House Museum 🎄

At the Valence House Christmas Market you’ll find unique gifts made by local crafts people, festive food stalls and magic galore! ☃️

We’ll also have time to visit Valence House, the only surviving manor house in Dagenham! It dates back to medieval times and is still partially surrounded by a moat.

Valence House Museum’s core collection totals around 20,000 objects that tell the story of Barking and Dagenham and its people throughout the ages. The collection spans from prehistory to the modern day.

Highlights on display include the prehistoric Dagenham Idol sculpture, whalebones believed to be from the lower jaw of a Common Greenland Whale and the Fanshawe family portraits, one of the best collections of gentry portraits in Britain.
