Musical Ruby
Details
Harmony, rhythm, dance, rave. Are these words you ever thought you'd hear associated with a programming language? There is a whole movement called algorave where programmers live code music for people to dance to. Sonic Pi was born out of that movement coupled with an interest in finding a different way to engage kids and adults to learn how to program.
Sonic Pi is a Ruby based environment that is easy enough for a 10 year old to learn, yet powerful enough for use in a nightclub. I'll take you on a tour of Sonic Pi and show you how easy it is to create music. I'll also touch a bit on how Sonic Pi works its magic under the covers. Feel free to try Sonic Pi out as we go along. By the time I stop talking you'll have created your first tune and be dancing in your seat!
