What we’re about
Madison isn't all young adults, some of us are over 50, but young at heart! If you live on or near the isthmus, are over 50, and are seeking new friendships, join us. We'll meet primarily between 10am - 5pm, with some events in early evenings. Are you retired? still working from home? caregiving for a spouse and need an outing? new to the area? looking for friends to meet up with to enjoy the farmers markets, trips to the library, music on the terrace, lectures, walks to galleries? recovering from an injury and need to get back into your groove? Join this group of locals in Madison WI. Meetings are held downtown more often, but we also plan activities on both East and West sides.
P.S. If we meet in a coffee shop or restaurant consider buying a drink or appetizer.

See all- Allen Centennial Outdoor Jazz Concert in the Garden - +1 Guest allowedAllen Centennial Garden, Madison , WI
Enjoy the beauty of the Allen Centennial Garden and the toe-tapping jazz of LES CORDES EN BLEU, a trio of guitar, violin and bass with music inspired by the legendary Django Reinhardt (French jazz of the 1920s). Enjoy hot jazz, trad jazz, bebop, straight-ahead jazz, and jazz standards. Bring a guest, spouse, friend to this event! Just indicate a +1 below. We meet at 4:30pm to get set up before the music starts. Bring your own refreshment in a thermos!
HEAT NOTICE: Your host will cancel this event if temperatures are 84 degrees or higher, at 3pm, as the event can be uncomfortable at high temperatures, no matter the beauty of the garden. She'll update this listing and send out a notice. You are still encouraged to go, but Cheryl suffers at higher temps! Wear sunscreen and a hat with brim for more comfort.
On arriving, pull a white folding chair from the lawn and bring it to where we are gathering. On a hot summer day, it can help to move into a shadier area. Cheryl is bringing a colorful bike flag, so look for that. Parking ramps are near the garden.
Some of us, afterwards, may walk down to the lake path and enjoy the wonderful view. The lake path is accessible behind the gardens.

Sampling of Le Cordon en Bleu - Women Sharing Breakfast with Short Forest Walk Afterwards - For Women Age 50+Paul’s Neighborhood Bar, Middleton, WI
Meet at Paul's bar to share breakfast, and then walk 1 block to enter a short portion of the Pheasant Branch Creek Corridor. We will walk 1.2 miles eastward, turn around, and return. If you have trouble walking that distance there are benches and bridges scattered at various points where you may listen to birdsong and we will return back to you. This path is completely paved and there are NO steps. Total distance 2.6 miles round trip from the restaurant. The turn-around is at Century Ave. There are gentle hills and some slopes on bridges over a few creeks. This path is very forested and filled with wildflowers and sounds of bubbling water over river rocks. There are no cars, and bikes will be few.
If you want to do the breakfast but not the walk, please hold off on signing up until after Labor Day to allow the walkers to sign up first. This is a social walk, not a fast walk. The purpose of this Meetup is to help women meet other women for easy walks.
Paul's bar is a pretty simple sports bar but we have been well treated and it serves a solid classic breakfast of eggs, hashbrowns, and other favorites. Your host has picked Wednesday as there are two breakfast servers that day.
Bring water with you, or hydrate yourself well at breakfast. You will be walking the trail AT YOUR OWN RISK. This event will not be held if the air quality is poor or unhealthy, or if temps are to be over 85 degrees that day, or if it is raining. If that happens, the entire event will be rescheduled. The walk will be held if the air quality is rated moderate. You may text your host to see if things are "on". That number will be provided on the morning of. If cancelled, a notice will get sent to you from Meetup and the title will be marked as [CANCELLED].
Pavement is smooth. This area was very recently restored and is just beautiful!
