About us
Madison isn't all young adults, some of us are over 50, but young at heart! If you live on or near the isthmus, are a woman over 50, and are seeking new friendships, join us. We'll meet primarily between 10am - 5pm, with some events in early evenings. Are you retired? still working from home? caregiving for a spouse and need an outing? new to the area? looking for friends to meet up with to enjoy the farmers markets, trips to the library, music on the terrace, lectures, walks to galleries? recovering from an injury and need to get back into your groove? Join this group of locals in Madison WI. Meetings are held downtown more often, but we also plan activities on both East and West sides. If we meet in a coffee shop or restaurant consider buying a drink or appetizer. On occasion, a later evening event will be marked as "Bring a +1", meaning you may bring a friend, partner or spouse. Those events will be clearly labelled.
Membership Information:
- Your displayed name must include a first name. Display names looking like e-mail addresses or text strings will be removed, in accordance with Meetup's spam reduction strategies.
- Members who have not visited the group's page to peruse events within the last 4 months will be removed from the group, so that the list reflects a headcount of active women on Meetup. If a person is inactive, they can rejoin the group at any time!
- You will be removed with two NO-SHOWs. Please keep your RSVP status up to date. If you sign up for an event, and cannot make it, change your RSVP to "Not Going". This releases your RSVP to another individual on the wait list. Your host will have an accurate attendance count. It also means your host is not trying to hold your seat for you at venues where seats are in high demand and holding chairs is frowned upon.
- Your host reserves the right to remove or ban members sending unwanted communications through the Meetup platform, at her sole discretion.

Orchid Quest at Monona Terrace - Refreshment After - for Women Age 50+
Monona Terrace, John Nolen Drive, Madison, WI, USThe Upper Midwest's largest orchid show and sale is coming to the Monona Terrace February 7 & 8! Orchid Quest is a celebration of nature's most stunning blooms. No advance tickets. $10 at the door. Items for sale to the public. The event showcases individual plants and group exhibits designed by orchid clubs from Wisconsin and neighboring states that are judged at the national level by the American Orchid Society.
While the event is open to the public, this Meetup is being kept small, so that we can keep ourselves together at the show, and find seating together at the coffee shop on the Square. (If our group has live plants that they have purchased, we may stay at the terrace so as not to freeze the orchids, and your host will have some light refreshment with her. Alternatively, we can go to Collectivo for hot drinks) Parking at Monona Terrace is $5 or come by bus (A B C E 38 F and R lines arrive at the square).
Meet at the entrance to BALLROOM A on the main level (level 4). Cheryl will have a MEETUP sign. The event also has orchids to view on the Grand Terrace, which will will visit after the ballroom. If the event is chaotic with crowds, and we miss each other, please text Cheryl at 561-403-3935 to let her know you are here, and we will catch up by a specific booth or food area inside the orchid event.

Love Dim Sum? Yum Cha at Nani (West Madison) - for Women Age 50+
Nani Restaurant, 518 Grand Canyon Drive, Madison, WI, USYum cha is a social gathering as much as a time to share dim sum. Skip breakfast and come hungry to Nani, in West Madison. Yum cha, literally means 'drink tea', in the Cantonese tradition. We will share small plates. You may learn more about this tradition in this BBC article.
Please order 2-3 dim sum small plates or one entree plate from the menu, not to exceed $18.99 in total for food. Order one drink, not to exceed $7 (which will cover beer, a glass of house wine, or non-alcoholic drink.) The dim sum menu is huge, and the $18.99 food limit means you can avail yourself of most entrees on the menu excluding duck and seafood. The restaurant will add a gratuity, and we will SPLIT THE BILL EVENLY to accommodate the restaurant. Please do not ask for cocktails or other exceptions which would complicate bill-splitting. I am estimating a cost of approximately $31 per person, with food, drink and tip included. If you feel you ate less than $31 worth, please think of it as your investment in meeting new friends and new taste sensations! See PHOTOS BELOW for the full menu.
Please keep your RSVP up to date. Those who "no show" deny another person a chance to sit at the table. Sign-ups will not be taken after noon February 8th.
Cheryl, your host, normally does not do dining events, but she had dim sum here at Nani on par with what she used to enjoy in Washington DC. Here's hoping this event is every bit as delicious.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo - at the Overture
Overture Center for the Arts, 201 State Street, Madison, WI, USEnjoy comic ballet by the all-male Les Ballets Trockadero at the Overture. Socialize with drinks before the concert and afterwards. Best known for presenting their lovingly-satirical takes on the tropes of classical ballet repertory, these versatile dancers layer slapstick humor with technical chops resulting in performances that simultaneously celebrate and skewer the ballets that aficionados thought they knew. Enjoy an evening of hearty laughter. Feel free to bring a spouse or friend. This is a +1 event. Tickets are currently priced between $38-$77. GET YOUR TICKET HERE
We will meet one hour before the performance at the Promenade (2nd floor) or Upper Lobby (3rd floor). Drinks are available at the Overture concessions. Watch this listing for a more exact location INSIDE the Overture, as the date approaches. A MEETUP SIGN will be placed on the table. Afterwards, we can go over the State Street, and have a post-drink at the Cask & Ale or other nearby venue, if there is interest.
If you are using the bus to arrive, your host will walk with you to the State Street bus stop, and wait with you until your departing bus picks you up. Please do not let the later hour deter you.
