Chazen Glass Exhibit - Memorial Union Wheelhouse Art Studio - Kohler Art Library

Let's meet at the Chazen exhibit and view the Toshiko Takaezu ceramics and glassware exhibit, grab a coffee at the museum cafe, visit the Kohler art library, and then walk a couple of blocks to the Wheelhouse art studio within Memorial Union. (The Memorial library special collections will be closed on the day of our visit for renovations). Get there early if you are parking as parking can be difficult. It is highly recommended to arrive in this University area by bus. It will be MUCH easier for you. This event has lots of standing; please be able to walk for most of it, though we will take a short sit-down break for coffee and a brief rest at each building. This event is for women age 50+

Per the Isthmus regarding the Chazen new exhibit, "This major retrospective of sculptor Toshiko Takaezu’s work encompasses her ceramics, sculpture and large scale environmental pieces, claiming for her a larger role in 20th century American art. Best known for her earthy “closed form” ceramic sculptures, Takaezu is notable for her reconceiving of familiar pottery vessels as a canvas for abstraction, with as much or more potential as a canvas." The Memorial library collection features rare books, manuscripts, archives, ephemera, and a significant reference collection. Artists might be especially interested in holdings related to fashion and design, the science of color and dying, printmaking and print history, literary subcultures and countercultures, and the history of science and technology. Both the university community and the general public are welcome to view and do research with the collections. More info about the collections.

We are visiting the Kohler library not so much to see anything in particular, but to find it and understand its value to members in our group who are artists, or have great affection for art, fashion, and design trends.
