Breakfast on the Square - Evergleam Trees, Capitol Decorations, and State Street
Details
Share breakfast on the Square, enjoy the historical aluminum Evergleam trees at the WI History Space, see the festive displays in our Capitol, stroll 2 blocks of State Street, and wrap up with a cup of cocoa or cappuccino.
We meet between 9:15AM-9:30AM in the Novo apartment building lobby, which is entered across from the Embassy Suites hotel at 216 S Pinckney Street. Public parking is found directly under the Novo building, and is accessed from Doty St, on the right hand side, just before you reach the Pinckney St intersection. You must depart the garage to street level, walk around the corner, and enter the Novo lobby from Pinckney Street. (Only residents have direct access into the building). There is also another parking garage directly across from the Novo public parking, on the left hand side of Doty Street. Either will work. Or, ride bus A B C 38 E F or R to get within 1-2 blocks of the Novo apartments. Please wear shoes with good traction. Event will be rescheduled in event of icy conditions. There is some walking involved - please be able to walk 1.3 miles (which accounts for the museum, Square, and portion of State Street)
We will go to Gooseberry on the Square for a very cost effective breakfast. It is in the U.S. Bank building, and they make omelets all day! We will then visit the WI History Space (part of the WI Historical Society) to see why millions of Evergleam trees - made and sold in Manitowac - were all the rage in the 1960s. From there, we visit the Capitol building to view the large tree and holiday lights, and spot a few fossils in the marble walls and steps. Lastly, we walk a few blocks down State St for retail therapy, returning afterwards to the Novo building. Along the way, you may wish to grab gifts at Fromagination or the Washington Veterans Museum, which has many great model planes boats and military mugs for sale.
