Open Writing Discussion
Come join us for a night of literary discourse as we read and discuss our peers' writing in a friendly and supportive atmosphere! Anyone is welcome to submit work to be read and discussed at this meeting, and all styles & skill levels are welcome. In our meetings we strive for a warm and inviting atmosphere where constructive writing critique and support are welcome, but personal judgements are not. Here are the options for sharing your writing (with work posted online before the meeting getting 1st priority for discussion) I apologize in advance if we run out of time for spoken word or any paper copies brought in day of, but you are always welcome to try again at the next meeting if this happens! 1) You can create a direct link to your work and post it in the comment section below through a file sharing site of your choice. A couple options are Google Docs or Dropbox, which are both free and easy to use. Through those programs, you are able to create a link to your work, which you can then copy and past into the comment section below if you'd like your work read before the meeting. http://www.dropbox.com https://www.google.com/docs/about/ 2) Alternately, you are welcome to bring something to read aloud if you would like: i.e. poetry, an excerpt, shorter piece, etc, and we can have a discussion of the piece after the reading. There are always volunteers to read your work as well! We will get to spoken pieces after all previously submitted work is discussed. If you are looking for any specific type of feedback- i.e. help with dialogue, tighten up punctuation, spell check, etc.- then please make note of this at the beginning of your work, or in the comment section when posting. You do not need to submit work to participate in meetings, but it is good to read what other's have submitted if you'd like to participate in the discussion about each piece. Sometimes members read their work aloud if there is time though, so if you didn't get a chance to read, you will still be able to follow along. If you are a new member, you are welcome to sit in and observe a meeting to see how they go. DISCLAIMER: The upper level of Common Ground is currently only accessible by stairs, but this is something we are looking to remedy as soon as we are able! The main floor dining area is completely accessible, & we will also be hosting a variety of events and activities on the main level throughout the month. As always, feel free to email or message me with any questions, comments or concerns :) Happy writing everyone! -Adrienne Please RSVP on our meetup page, but feel free to also check out the event on our Common Ground website! www.commongroundmiddleton.com

What we're about

Welcome to our community of writers and word enthusiasts! Whether you are a seasoned pro, you're wanting to retrieve your missing mojo, or are in the pupal stage of literary growth and wanting to flex your creative muscles for the first time- all writers and wordsmiths are welcome! Our meetings will be a workshop atmosphere to share different types of writing (when & if you feel comfortable), get honest feedback through group discussion, and ideally learn & grow as writers. We will strive for a safe, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere where critique is welcome, but personal judgments are not. Members are also welcome to come up with meeting ideas, host events of their own, & help plan writing excercises & activities. Community events relating to writing or that may be of interest will also be posted to our calendar, and members can feel free to let me know of events to post. This group will be based in Middleton and West Madison, but others willing to commute are welcome.

Cheers,

Adrienne
