Mahjongg Craze!

Mahjongg Craze — American Mahjongg in Tucson

Mahjongg Craze is a place to discover, learn, play, and connect through American Mahjongg.

Whether you are completely new, returning after some time away, or already comfortable at the table, Mahjongg Craze helps you find opportunities to learn, practice, play, meet other players, and become part of a friendly Tucson Mahjongg community.

We primarily play and teach American Mahjongg using National Mah Jongg League rules and the current NMJL card.

New to Mahjongg?
You are absolutely in the right place.

American Mahjongg can feel like a lot at first. There are tiles to recognize, a card to understand, hands to build, a Charleston to learn — and eventually an entire game happening around you.

That’s why Mahjongg Craze beginner instruction is intentionally patient, step-by-step, and confidence-focused.

You do not need to know anything about Mahjongg before you begin.

Mahjongg Craze offers learning opportunities for true beginners, returning players, and players who want focused help with particular parts of their game.

Instruction may include private or small-group lessons, guided beginner play, community learning opportunities, classes and workshops, and focused help with the NMJL card, Charleston, hand building, game flow, calling, exposing, and strategy.

Player Support Codes
To help people find the right learning and play opportunities, Mahjongg Craze uses a simple player-support code system.

These codes are not rankings. They are just a quick way to describe the kind of support or table experience that may fit you best.

NB — New Beginner
Brand new or just getting started.
RB — Returning Beginner
You’ve learned before, but you’re rusty or still rebuilding confidence.
BG — Beginner Graduate
You’ve completed a beginner course and understand the basics, but still need repetition and table time.
CP — Casual Player
You know how to play and want friendly, relaxed games.
EP — Experienced Player
You play independently and are comfortable joining regular games.
ET — Experienced Teacher
You already teach American Mahjongg.

Event listings may include one or more of these codes so you can quickly see the estimated level of play and support welcome at that event.

For example:
NB–ET means the event is designed to welcome all experience levels.

RB and up means returning beginners and more experienced players are likely to be a good fit, while a brand-new player may need instruction first.

CP / EP / ET means the event is best suited to players who already know how to play independently.

Because every table and venue is different, these are guidelines, not guarantees. If you are unsure whether an event is a good fit, email [hello@mahjonggcraze.com](mailto:hello@mahjonggcraze.com).

Supporting Our Host Venues ♥
Many Mahjongg Craze gatherings are held at local restaurants, cafés, and other businesses that generously give us space to play.

When attending at a business, please plan to purchase at least a beverage, snack, or something from the menu to support our host venue.

When there is a separate teaching program or class fee, that fee supports the instruction and program and is separate from anything purchased from the venue.

Teachers & Community Partners
Mahjongg Craze would love to connect with experienced players, teachers, hosts, venues, and community organizers who want to help Mahjongg thrive around Tucson.

You may already teach independently, host a game, run an open-play group, or have a venue where Mahjongg happens.

You do not have to become a Mahjongg Craze teacher or operate under the Mahjongg Craze model in order for us to help Tucson players find what you offer.

We want Mahjongg Craze to make it easier for people to discover both Mahjongg Craze opportunities and the good independent Mahjongg resources already available around Tucson.
