About us

Hi and welcome! This group is here to help people learn, practice, and enjoy National Mahjongg in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Whether you are brand new, a little rusty, or already know how to play, the goal is to create a welcoming Tucson-area Mahjongg community where people can learn, laugh, build confidence, and have fun together.

We follow National Mahjongg League rules as closely as possible so that if you ever want to branch out into other groups or even tournaments, you will have a strong foundation.

Important note for beginners — please read

Please read each event description carefully before RSVP’ing, because not every event is the same.

Some events are held at public venues or partner locations, and some of those venues have their own requirements. For example, certain venues such as Udall are 50+.

Also, Amy is not at every event, and when she does attend a public open play, she may only be there for specific teaching times listed in the event description.

If you are a total beginner and need true slow, step-by-step help, please look for events where Amy is marked as attending.

If Amy is attending an open play public group, beginners should head to Amy’s table during the teaching hours listed. That is the best place for help with:
• reading the card
• understanding the Charleston
• hand building
• NMJL basics
• learning at a slower, no-pressure pace

If Amy is not attending, you are still very welcome to join events on the calendar. Usually someone may be able to help a bit, but they may not be able to teach at the very slow pace that brand-new players often need.

Who should join

This group is a great fit for:
• brand-new players who want patient instruction
• returning players who want a refresher
• experienced players looking for fun, friendly games
• anyone who enjoys strategy, community, and good company

Why join
• friendly and supportive atmosphere
• free coaching with Amy when she is teaching
• a chance to learn National Mahjongg the right way from the start
• opportunities to practice and build confidence
• a welcoming community that values learning, laughter, and fair play

About membership

Mahjongg Craze is free to join.
There are currently no membership dues for this group.

From time to time, we may also add small community touches such as bring-a-friend thank-yous, birthday-month surprises, helper or new teacher thank-yous, and occasional raffle or special recognition gifts at events. These are simply meant to add fun, appreciation, and community spirit.

For anyone who ever feels moved to help support little extras for the group, contributions toward supplies, small gifts, or occasional helper support are always welcome — but never expected. Amy prefers to handle the purchasing directly so everything stays simple and consistent.

Most importantly, being part of Mahjongg Craze does not require anything beyond joining in and enjoying the group.

A quick note from Amy

I am always happy to re-teach, coach, and help members feel more comfortable with the game. If I am attending and teaching, coaching is included. ❤️
For those who need a quieter setting or a different pace, private teaching may sometimes be available by request. Tips are always welcome, but never required.

We would love to welcome you to the table — whether you are learning for the first time, getting back into Mahjongg, or simply looking for a fun group to play with.
