Creating Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) with Affinity
MAKE Roanoke, 128 Albemarle Ave SE, Roanoke, VA, USCome learn about Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) in this class at MAKE Roanoke using the free software Affinity! This class is taught by Ettelie Lovern and Melissa Comeau.
Vector Graphics are unique in that they can be scaled infinitely without losing quality, unlike raster (pixel) graphics. They are extremely useful in design, but also in the world of making. Knowing how to make and edit SVGs will give you a skill useful in Die Cutting (like the Cricut), CNC applications, 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, and more.
In this class, students will learn about vector images and vector image software. We will be using the free program Affinity, but the skills learned here are very transferable to other programs such as Inkscape and Illustrator.
Students will begin by taking a sketch and using it to create a coffee shop logo, using the tools in Affinity to trace an image and add text. At the end of the class, students will be able to edit and create their own vector images to use in their various projects.
Students must bring their own laptop (Mac or Windows) with Affinity already installed, and a free Canva account already made. A mouse or graphics tablet (ie wacom, etc) is also strongly recommended. You can download the software here: https://www.affinity.studio/download
This class is suitable for beginners, and is recommended for ages 16 and up. (Ages 12-16 can take it along with their parent/guardian using one computer) The class fee is $25, or $15 for MAKE Roanoke Members. MAKE Roanoke Members can also bring one guest at the discounted member rate. Find out more about MAKE Roanoke membership here. Payment is taken at the door, we accept cash, card (including tap-to-pay), and PayPal.
