MAKE Roanoke Daisy Art Parade Puppet Build Day

Join us as we continue to build our octopus puppet for the Daisy Art Parade! More discussion about our puppet build can be found in our Discord in the event-planning channel.

We made great progress in our last build day, including

• Attaching the flanges to the barrel
• permanently attaching the head to the barrel
• Adding chicken wire to the head to establish the shape
• Starting the paper mache of the head
• Purchased fabric for the tentacles

This build day will focus on:

• Sculpting the webbing around the barrel out of chicken wire
• Paper Mache
• Sewing the fabric for the tentacles
• Building the cart

MAKE Roanoke is thrilled to be participating in the Daisy Art Parade again this year! For those who don't know, the Daisy Art Parade is a parade through downtown Roanoke of giant puppets that people in our community make! All puppets must be man-powered (IE no cars towing them!) and using recycled material is highly encouraged. This year the parade is on May 10! You can learn more about the parade here.

You do not need to be a MAKE Roanoke Member to be a part of our Daisy Art Parade Krewe! All crafts and experience levels welcome! Minors participating in this event must be age 12+ and supervised by an adult.

Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:

• All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the waiver must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian.
• Children who are not participating in the event are not permitted in the space.
• Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.
• You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.
• Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.
