What we're about

Due to the rise of digital fabrication and the unlimited acces to knowledge that the internet provides us, everyone is able to make “almost anything”. Big laboritories or industries are no longer a prerequisite in doing so. MakeHealth is a project in which we team up with users. Together we explore new possibilities of becoming makers of innovative healthcare solutions whilst the Dutch government (as many other governments) is retreating as a financing and providing party in healthcare.

MakeHealth: Prototyping III

CONTACT

We are happy to announce that the third series of MakeHealth: Prototyping starts 9 March 2019. This new series is organised in collaboration with Samen Beter. Do you have an idea for a care solution that makes everyday life easier? Or have an aid of which you think it could be designed better? Are you a designer, an experiential expert, a healthcare professional, or an informal carer with a great idea for a healthcare solution? At MakeHealth: Prototyping you'll be working in a team on a concrete question once per week over an five-week period. This question could be about developing a new solution to a problem or improving an existing tool. With MakeHealth we want to develop new, open design applications and publish these online. Your solution, including all the design files and instructions will become available on the international platform Careables. That means anyone can reproduce or adapt your solution. So you not only helping your team, but society as a whole will benefit! Practical information All meetings of MakeHealth: Prototyping II will take place on Saturday from 10:00 - 14:00 hrs. The next series starts on 22 September. The last meeting will be on 10 November. Participation is free. The prime language will be Dutch, but don't worry, we can easily switch to English when necessary. Please registrated via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.nl/e/registratie-makehealth-prototyping-iii-56037139593 Prior knowledge of digital manufacturing and technology is not required as we'll focus on this during the workshops. However, we do expect you to attend all the workshops, so that your team have enough time to complete their project. Location All meetings take place at Makerspace Contact; a location that is fully accessible by wheelchair users. The address is: Contactweg 47, 1014 AN Amsterdam. The location can easily be reached by metro near station Amsterdam Sloterdijk and has parking facilities nearby. Programme Meeting 1 - 9 March Introduction to the theme, possible topics, and formation of teams. Each team begins brainstorming ideas about possible solutions. Joint decision on team's direction going forward. Meeting 2 - 16 March Research on possible applications, materials, and techniques. Start first designs.Meeting 3 - 6 October Developing designs: create drawings or models, choose material and plan for production. Start prototyping. Meeting 3 - 23 March Creating prototype. Experiment with materials and manufacturing techniques. Meeting 4 - 30 March Continue development of prototype and documentation. Meeting 5 - 6 April Finish prototype and documentation. Exposition - Thursday 18 April (19.30 - 22.30) Lecture and discussion by guest speakers. Presentation of final prototypes. Looking back on learning moments with drinks.

MakeHealth: Prototyping III // Final Presentations

'Open' design applications in healthcare for and by citizens: how does that work? What is needed to share solutions with each other? During this meetup the results of the third MakeHealth: Prototyping series and the online platform Careables are presented. With the emergence of digital fabrication technology and the accessibility of online knowledge, citizens, healthcare professionals and designers can make (high quality) healthcare applications themselves. How can these locally produced solutions have a global impact? What is needed to share these open healthcare solutions? In the MakeHealth: Prototyping series designers, healthcare professionals, carers and people with a care need designed and realised new healthcare solutions at Contact Amsterdam. During this meetup we look back on their experiences and the challenges they encountered during the prototyping process. Entrance is free. No reservation needed. Programme 19.30 - welcome by Alex Schaub and Paulien Melis 19.40 - guest lectures & panel discussion 20.00 - presentation of all prototypes 21.30 - visit exhibition and drinks 22.30 - closing We will show the online platform Careables where open healthcare solutions can be documented and shared worldwide. Additionally the makers show their prototypes of open healthcare solutions and we round off Makehealth: Prototyping II in celebratory style! During this final event of the series we will present and discuss the works that the different teams have been working on during the program.
