What we’re about

Hi everyone!

I am the new organizer for this group! It's great to assume the role and have met some of you as well. You may very well know that I also run the East Bay New Friends Meetup Group (https://www.meetup.com/East-Bay-New-Friends-Meetup-Group) and would encourage you to join!

This group will focus on making new friends! The purpose of this group is to remove any barriers from anyone who wants to meet new people and make new friends.

Keep a look out for different virtual socials such as game nights, dinner, happy hours, or even Netflix Parties.

This is a fun, laid-back environment. Typically our socials involve people getting to meet each other online where we have break-out groups of 3-4 people. Each group lasts for about 20-25 minutes and then we shuffle the groups 3 times over the course of the 2-hour event.

*If you need to join-in later, no problem! Better to have you than not just make sure you directly messageme on the meet-up messenger.

Format:

We start at 7PM, sharp, and we all go around and introduce ourselves along with where we're from.

Depending on the size of the group, we'll use breakout rooms and do 20 minute intervals so everyone gets the chance to connect with one another.

These are great ways to meet new people and make new friends.

A few guidelines:

1 - Be kind and courteous

We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.

2 - No hate speech or bullying

Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, or identity will not be tolerated.

3 - No promotions or spam

Give more to this group than you take. Self-promotion, spam, and irrelevant links aren't allowed. If you'd like to invite friends to another group or event, I have no problem with it, just make sure you reach out to people individually and not billboard it in group events or discussion boards. Let's make new friends!

4 - Respect everyone's privacy

Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group.
