In this class, you will make your own wood bowl on the lathe while learning the fundamentals of working with a wood lathe. Our goal is to help you gain the confidence to use a lathe so you can start your wood turning journey. Our instructor will guide you through the process step by step, tool by tool.

Topics Covered
How to use the bandsaw to cut your material to size
How to safely place your material on the lathe
Tool selection (turning tools and chucks)
Proper tool techniques (the "how and why" of making tools perform properly)
Fundamentals of cutting (shearing versus scraping: which is best and when)

Additional Information
Attendees must be at least 16 years and up. After the successful completion of this class attendees will be given a certificate allowing them use of the Wood Lathes with a paid Make Salt Lake membership. Please note that you will need to also take the Woodshop - Cutting Board Make & Take class to gain access to the woodshop.
