About us
This group is for members and visitors to Makespace, a community workshop in Cambridge, UK. The meetups are organised by community members both in the space and elsewhere in Cambridge.
We would love to meet:
- Community members, enthusiasts, and educational groups who could benefit from a lab in which to work together, network, socialise, and draw on the expertise of others
- People working within local industries looking to innovate in ways that require new skills, equipment and contacts
- Companies and consultancies that support innovation and prototyping, and who could provide training, support, leading to the sale of their services
- Innovators needing to produce physical prototypes to further their ideas

MS x Kings E-Lab Planning Session 1
Makespace Cambridge, 16 Mill Ln, Cambridge CB2 1RX, UK, Cambridge, GB> On Thursday 1 October we're running a hands-on electronics and entrepreneurship day for 90 students, split across Makespace and the Keynes Lecture Theatre at King's College. Students work in teams of five to solder and build an electronics kit, then pitch it — half the group at each venue, swapping over at the halfway point.
This event on Thursday 17th September at 6.30pm - MakeSpace Classroom is the first of two planning sessions that we plan to use to prepare in advance of the session delivery.
As with everything at MakeSpace this is a volunteer effort and enthusiasm for putting on the Kings E-Lab session has been high so far.
We've already been able to:
- Design our own MakeSpace Training Board (Thanks Chris)
- Organise two entrepreneurs who are both MakeSpace members to be speakers at the event
- Decide how to teach new-starters solderingWhat's yet to be done:
- Prepare the Training boards
- Order the remainder of the soldering kits and components
- Prepare marketing materials / resources for students on the day

MakeSpace is a great community of makers and oftentimes we all work on solo projects. This is a project to give back, and make the most of the combined skillsets of MakeSpace members to serve the wider Cambridge communityIf you want to help MakeSpace make an impact, and collaborate with other makers to give students the best experience that MakeSpace can offer then We'd love to see you help either with the planning, or with volunteering on the morning of Thursday 1st of October.

Who should join?
We're really open to the different perspectives and help of our MakeSpace members. So far we've had a lot of input from the electronics owners and electronics specialists in the space because of the nature of this session - however, no electronics expertise is required to help!4 attendees
Stained Glass Station Practical Training (Members Only)

You need to have scored 100% in both quizzes.
You will not be inducted if the quizzes haven't been completed.Learn how to and demonstrate that you can safely use the Stained Glass Station.
There are 3 spaces for this practical.
We are based in the main space on the end of the fine metals bench. We will supply safety goggles and masks, however you may want to bring your own.

Code Club - FREE Code Club for kids

This is a FREE coding club for people aged 7-17, run by volunteers.
**IMPORTANT: This event page is just here to book the room out and inform Makespace members that it exists. Please ensure all coders (that's the young people) have their place secured by registering them through the CODE CLUB PORTAL.**

Learn coding in 😺 Scratch, 🐍 Python and more! No experience is required - just bring your kids along so they can have some fun!
Make sure you bring:
- 💻 A laptop, if you have one. If you are struggling to source one then we can lend you one courtesy of the wonderful people at Makespace.
- 🔌 A charger (for the laptop!)
- 👩👦 A parent! (Very important). If your child is 12 or under, a parent or guardian must stay with them during the session.
