On Thursday 1 October we're running a hands-on electronics and entrepreneurship day for 90 students, split across Makespace and the Keynes Lecture Theatre at King's College. Students work in teams of five to solder and build an electronics kit, then pitch it — half the group at each venue, swapping over at the halfway point.

Context
Last year we at MakeSpace put on a Prototype to Pitch event for Kings E-lab Residential students where the learnt to solder, build a small electronics kit then pitch it as a product.

This sessions was phenomenally well-received by the students so this year we aim to put on a similar session whilst learning from last time about what we can do better.

This Year
Our session this year is fundamentally following the same template as last year though with a few key differences.

  • More students. 90 total opposed to 30 total last year. This does mean that we need more volunteers!
  • MakeSpace members have designed our own electronics kit to add to the available options of electronics kits to build. Awesome!

Sessions
The morning is split into two distinct sessions with the first at 10am and the second session at 12pm. Each session lasts 1.5 hours and there is a 30 min changeover window.

  1. Prototype to Pitch taking place at MakeSpace classroom
  2. Builders & Entrepreneurs symposium at Keynes Lecture Theatre, Kings College

Planning sessions and preparation
Please do read the run-up schedule we have for preparing for this event

Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to help students to build and debug their electronics kits, and also more generally to help with logistics and setup on the day.

The more the merrier!

** Please sign up for this Meetup event if you can spare the morning of Thursday 1st October to volunteer. **

We appreciate that it's a weekday so we know not everyone can give up that time however we're grateful to everyone that can for their help and support.
