- Bike Ride; Levee Loop Trail-East Stroudsburg (7-8 mi)Dansbury Park, East Stroudsburg, PA
Trying something new this time!! Let's meetup to BIKE this gem of a greenway trail that passes beside the Brodhead Creek on both East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg sides with a wonderful mix of town and country scenery.
The total distance is a very easy 7-8 miles that can be completed in under 2 hours, depending if we branch off the LL to head up the creek to Brodhead Creek Park and back. The terrain is mixed with grass, gravel and hard surfaces, but is mostly flat. We have a few small inclines, but nothing your low gears or a short walking can't handle.
A hybrid or mountain bike is recommended, as a road bike may not be good on the surfaces. Please have essential biking safety gear.
We'll meet at the Dansbury Park Trailhead and depart promptly at 9:30, so please arrive at least 10 minutes early. The trailhead is located on the levee just beyond the baseball field at Dansbury Park. Park in any available spot and walk behind the pool, across the baseball field and up the hill. Look for Dave and the group.

- Hickory Run State Park-Forests Hike/Car Camping WeekendHickory Run State Park, White Haven, PA
Let's meetup for a camping AND/OR hiking weekend. This will entail moderate hiking through varied forested terrain in a beautiful PA state park. The 15,990-acre Hickory Run State Park, Carbon County, lies in the western foothills of the Pocono Mountains. This large park has:
- More than 40 miles of hiking trails
- Three state park natural areas
Camping reservations must be made WELL IN ADVANCE to ensure a site. Each camper should reserve their own site! Do not count on sharing a site, unless you make those arrangements privately prior to the event. Click HERE to get to the park camping reservation site.
NOTE: I have reserved tent campsite #155 in the "140-164" Loop for myself. If you want to be near the group, select a site somewhere in that vicinity. Otherwise, you can select a site wherever you desire.
- Once you reserve your campsite, please post your site number in the comments, so we know where everyone will be.
I plan to arrive the afternoon of Friday, June 7 and get set up to camp Friday and Saturday nights, departing Sunday later in the morning. You are free to set the schedule you like. Each camper is responsible for their own camping equipment, food, food prep equipment, water, etc. for each meal and the hiking. Some of us are happy to share, but please do not come empty-handed.
HIKING INFO: We will set out from the campground for our hiking adventure at 10:00AM Saturday from the Beach Trail within the campground. If you are camping, this will be easy to work out. If you are NOT camping and wish to only hike, enter the park main entrance, go past the visitor's center and and proceed on to circular Parking Lot. Arrive no later than 9:45 as we will depart on time!
Hiking will be a moderate 7-8 miles, but we expect to go at a leisurely pace while we take in the many sites and sounds along the trail. Be sure you are confident in your hiking ability and that you allot the day for the duration. There are no cut-offs back once on the trail.
Of course, prepare for the day with proper hiking equipment and attire, plenty of food and water, bug spray and sunscreen. If you are uncertain how to prepare, we can discuss.
Back at the campground, we can gather for a peaceful dinner and conversation before one last night of camping out.
