Playmate Theatre Malmö is southern Sweden's professional small-cast, English-language theatre company. Please join as audience and support group. We'd love to meet you!
Playmate Theatre Malmö was set up in 2017 by three British actors, living and working in Malmö, hoping to fill a niche in the local theatre scene in Skåne. We offer quality English-language theatre, small-cast intimate plays, for Swedes and international audiences.
We are now in our third season and have presented works by Alan Bennett, David Ives, Peter Shaffer, Roald Dahl, Christopher Durangue, scenes from The Two Ronnies, Monty Python and much more. Playmate aims to produce contemporary English-language theatre that has wit, repartee, passion and relevance. Some comedy, some drama, some a mixture of both.
We also perform in Copenhagen and have luckily been able to play to full houses so far, and even survived just about on box office sales alone. In Malmö we are based at blackbox theatre Bastionen, just opposite Malmö Central Station.
Please come and support the arts and the international community. We feel passionately that live theatre is not only cracking entertainment but possibly a healthy mirror of reality, an escape from the everyday and a chance to reflect, along with a breathing body around you that is a live audience. The intimacy and collective experience of theatre in the round, fringe theatre in a small space - is a far cry from the anonymity of sitting alone at home with Netflix...
But a theatre is nothing without an audience! We aim to put on two plays a year and are always on the lookout for volunteers, and of course professionals and performers, designers, directors, backstage crew, producers, playwrights and admin - you name
it - people with talent, experience and training, to help us on stage and off.
Like all actors we have an enormous love of words, but there is no denying the value of entertainment to an audience and the power of a good story. Some plays just sound better in their native language. Other well-loved English language plays are perhaps unfamiliar to a Scandinavian audience.

THE QUEENS' FILES - multilingual theatre

Drottningarna mot MaktenThis play THE QUEENS' FILES is not a Playmate Theatre Production but it does feature some Playmate actors, - an exciting international and Swedish locally-based professional ensemble of 6 actors, including Swedish actress Olivia Longo, and a circus performer from Karavan as part of the chorus.
The play is primarily in Swedish with sections of text in English and fragments of other languages - French ect. This play is multilingual and very visual, so even those with very little Swedish should be able to enjoy and follow. The play is exciting, dynamic, dramatic and full of movement, using elements of physical and object theatre, mask and movement as well as text, choreography and music, to create a historical, lyrical piece of story telling.
(Not really suitable for those under 11. Though kids have enjoyed it!)
The play itself is 1 hour long.
*The Bishop's Arms is just along the street if you want to go for a chat afterwards or just stay to chat in the foyer of the theater afterwards.

THE PLOT OF "THE QUEENS' FILES"
An original multilingual adaptation which springs from and is inspired by the play "Mary Stuart" by Friedrich Schiller; a brand new text-and-movement creation focusing on the lives and haunting destiny of historical figures Mary Stuart Queen of Scots and Queen Elisabeth the First.They were women, they were queens and they were cousins; destined to be enemies from birth, united by power, tossed into a seething political maelstrom, a tale as relevant to today as it is to the past. The play is a mystery-crime-story investigating power and gender from the perspective of what possibilities a Queen has to rule in a man's world.
