Details

For our July event we're super excited to have Jen Beattie talking to us about 'Breaking Barriers: Empowering Women in Tech'

The aim of the talk is to empower the audience with actionable strategies and insights to actively contribute to reducing the gender gap in the tech industry, going beyond statistics to address practical ways individuals and organisations can support and promote women in tech.

Jen is passionate about using technology to make a positive impact. With a background in Fine Art and a diploma in User Experience, she aims to create enjoyable digital experiences. Jen began her career at a Web Design company and quickly advanced to working for one of the UKs largest Financial Services. Now, with a decade of experience, she is the Head of Engineering at GivePanel, a platform that helps non-profits grow their fundraising through social media.

We'll also have our Round Table for the second half of our time together. This is a time to ask any burning questions you have to a group of peers to get their input and advice. Questions we've had in the past are:

  • How do you create a high performing team?
  • What do you do when someone wants a promotion but they aren't ready?
  • How do you 'manage up', particularly when your boss wants to use AI for the sake of it?

As always we will have food and drink. It's always a great night, where everyone goes away with some nugget to think about or implement.

This event is aimed at people working in tech leadership, whether as an Engineering Manager, technical lead or any other role involving leadership, development and support of others. We'll have a talk from a community tech leader, with space for Q&A and discussion afterwards. After the main speaker, we'll have more space with a roundtable chat about a hot topic of the month – help us decide what this should be on the night.

So do you need guidance on hiring strategies, managing 1:1s, implementing complex policies like on-call or other leadership challenges? Would you like to hear from your peers in the West Midlands about how their organisations are responding to the remote/in-office debate? Let us know.

ManageOps is generously supported by TechMids, who help us promote and organise the event, and Substrakt, who kindly provide food and drinks during the event – we’re also very grateful to the team at the Jointworks for providing their lovely venue to host us.

ManageOps is set up to be shaped by you, its attendees – come along and help define what a meetup for technical leaders (or those aspiring to this role) should be. Excited to see you there!
