IndieFlicks returns, offering the perfect balance of a social night out and blended with top drawer, festival quality short films from around the world!

Our night now runs on the first Sunday of the month at the MiniCine, found within the incredible Ducie Street Warehouse, Manchester.

You can expect a wonderfully varied selection of short films, of which you vote for your favourite on the night. Have your questions asked by programmed filmmakers or our special guests*, all the while enjoying a wide selection of food & drinks from the bar.

Then to round off, we will share our Director's Choice, a slightly longer short, selected by our judging panel.

Tickets are only available online through our website, so please do not turn up without booking first.

Doors to the cinema are at 19:30 but feel free to arrive earlier and enjoy food and drink from the bar/restaurant. Screening start time and last entry at 20:00

Few legends have captivated the arts quite like Faust, Goethe’s timeless tale of a man who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for knowledge and pleasure. In music, composers from Beethoven and Schumann to Mahler and Gounod have all been drawn to its dark allure. Films like Bedazzled and Phantom of the Paradise, owe a nod to Goethe.

F.W. Murnau’s haunting silent adaptation blends Expressionist drama with epic scale and surreal beauty. Organist Darius Battiwalla returns to the RNCM with a gripping live improvised score, conjuring a dark and dazzling atmosphere as the story of corruption and redemption unfolds on screen. Murnau was also responsible for the classic Nosferatu, and brings the same vivid sensibility to Faust. Tickets are around £20, but you will have to arrange your own. Meet in the bar.

First screened at the 1979 Berlin Film Festival, Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s The Marriage of Maria Braun focusses on the life of a woman navigating post-war West Germany. Hanna Schygulla, one of the director’s most trusted collaborators, plays the title role with consummate skill.

When it was released in West Germany, The Marriage of Maria Braun became one of Fassbinder’s most successful films at the box-office. In its ability to appeal to audiences whilst tackling serious themes, it is another of Fassbinder’s films that reveal the influence of Douglas Sirk. The film’s precise use of colour and camerawork – by another long-time Fassbinder collaborator Michael Ballhaus – also bear the hallmarks of Sirk’s impact on Fassbinder.

Today, The Marriage of Maria Braun is seen as one of the high points of the New German Cinema.
