Synopsis- Ansa and Holappa are two lonely souls who meet in a karaoke bar and try to build a relationship. Their path to happiness is beset by the obstacles of modern life, from lost phone numbers to mistaken addresses, alcoholism and a charming stray dog.

One of Alfred Hitchcock's earliest films, and the first to signal his mastery of the film medium. Subtitled 'a story of the London fog', it was designed as a vehicle for popular 20's singer and composer Ivor Novello, who plays a man who may or may not be a murderer. Clearly influenced by the horrors of Jack the Ripper, the chiarascuro photography adds greatly to the atmosphere of escalating suspense. When social worker Rika is sent to check on a traumatized old lady whose family have moved in at the site of the notorious Saeki family murder case, she unwittingly unleashes a cycle of terror that is transmitted via its victims further and further from its original source. Often cited as one of the top 50 scariest films of all time, The Grudge - like The Ring - is a superior example of the J horror genre. Director Takashi Shimizu also directed the American remake (with Sarah Michelle Gellar), a rare example of a remake that's almost as good as the original. You will need to book your own ticket. Our night now runs on the first Sunday of the month at the MiniCine, found within the incredible Ducie Street Warehouse, Manchester.

You can expect a wonderfully varied selection of short films, of which you vote for your favourite on the night. Have your questions asked by programmed filmmakers or our special guests*, all the while enjoying a wide selection of food & drinks from the bar.

Then to round off, we will share our Director's Choice, a slightly longer short, selected by our judging panel.
