Barry Lyndon (1975)

Details
After A Clockwork Orange, Stanley Kubrick spent three years planning a film about Napoleon, which was eventually abandoned. He channeled his frustrations into this 3 hour adaptation of a novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, turning it around relatively fast given his reputation for obsessive perfectionism. Visually breathtaking (every scene looks like a painting) yet emotionally cold, it's the rise and fall story of an Irish rogue and con man (Ryan O'Neal) who lies and charms his way into the upper echelons of 18th century European society, only to see his fate sealed by his own ruthless ambition. The film won an Oscar for best cinematography (Kubrick developed a special lens to film one scene lit only by candles). Barry Lyndon needs to be seen on the big screen. This is the 50th anniversary 4k restoration. You will need to book your own ticket. Meet on the second floor.
