Paprika (2006)

Details
Years before Christopher Nolan made Inception, genius anime director Satoshi Kon explored similar territory in the dazzling, mind bending sci fi thriller, Paprika. A group of brilliant scientists have developed a form of psychotherapy with the invention of a machine which enables a person to enter another’s dreams. When the device is stolen by a “dream terrorist,” it is up to Atsuko Chiba, a scientist under the code name Paprika, to track down the apparatus and save the world from madness. Satoshi Kon died tragically young, and his films are still a bit of an unknown quantity in this country. But anyone with even a vague interest in animation needs to see Paprika, which belongs in the same category as other ground breaking anime films like Akira, and Ghost in the Shell. You will need to book your own ticket. Meet in the upstairs bar. Showing as part of the Cultplex Animation Weekender.
