- Switzerland Adventure Tour 2024 - (£1505.87)Manchester Airport, Manchester
***** Unfortunately flights have gone through the roof so I have had to adjust the price of the trip accordingly. If you want to book your own transport to Geneva I will reduce the cost by £464.88 (cost of the flights) *****
This year for our luxury trip I have organised a large Swiss chalet not too far from Martigny (inside Switzerland but close to the French border).
We will be staying close to the village of Champéry. This is a small town in the district of Monthey in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.
We will be walking in France and Switzerland with walks of 8-10 miles per day with ascents of up to 1500 metres per day. I will offer a choice of walks for 6 days with an optional additional activity on the middle Wednesday.
We aim to ascend some of the dents du midi.
(Dents du Midi : Climbing, Hiking & Mountaineering : SummitPost)
You must be fit with experience of walking in high alpine conditions to join this trip. The ability to mix comfortably with a large group is a distinct advantage.
Unfortunately due to group policy, children are not allowed to join.
Couples are welcome.
You are personally responsible for insuring yourself against injury or curtailment due to accident or illness. This should include repatriation in the event of an incident and hiking up to 3000 metres above sea level.
The trip includes flights from Manchester to Geneva and transport whilst in Switzerland / France / Italy in the minibus.
The price does not include food, trains, cable cars or any other paid activities with 3rd party providers.
Flights will be direct from Manchester to Geneva return
The beautiful alpine chalet totally renovated with a lot of character located at an altitude of 1420 meters facing the impressive Dents du Midi.
This chalet also has a sauna.
Chalet typical of the Valle d 'Illiez recently renovated keeping all its original charm.
It is very spacious and can accommodate up to 18 people. Where possible I will allocate people so that they share with a maximum of only 1 other person.
In the middle of nature, the setting in which this chalet is located is simply extraordinary. The chalet also has wifi.
The bedroom configuration is as follows:
Bedroom 1 : 1 x Double Bed - Stephen
Bedroom 2 : 1 x Double Bed - Angela
Bedroom 3 : 1 x Double Bed - Ann
Bedroom 4 : 1 x Double Bed
Bedroom 5 : 2 x Single Beds
Bedroom 6 : 2 x Single Beds - Nick
Bedroom 7 : 3 x Single Beds - Jane K
Bedroom 8 : 3 x Single Beds - JimI will allocate bedrooms based on the best fit although all rooms are large and airy and whilst the chalet can host 18 people, I have calculated the costs based on 14 people sharing. Where possible I will allocate people to private rooms.
Due to some people staying on from the previous week in the Basque region, costs will vary based on individual travel plans. Individual bills will be supplied once flights are booked.
To book a place, I will need a non-refundable deposit of £650 in additional to specific advanced passenger information (passport number, expiry date and date of birth) to book flights.
Payment of the balance is due 3 months before departure but I am happy to be flexible on this as long as payment is received in full before departure.
If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you for your interest.

There is so much to do, we are spoiled for choice. There will be a choice of easier or harder walks on both Saturday and Sunday.
All food is provided from Friday dinner to packed lunch on Sunday but we have no staff as such so help is needed with preparation and clearing up on a voluntary basis. We do cater for most dietary requirements and preferences but please ask if unsure. All main meals are included but we don't normally provide biscuits, cakes or desserts so if you want to bring some of these to share that would be lovely.
The hostel is in an isolated spot with no pub or shops nearby so any drinks required need to be brought with you. Yes, we do stay up late, play board games and card games and may even have a bit of music and dancing if that's what people want so if you are a sensitive sleeper ear plugs are a good idea.
Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.
We have run many successful weekends over the last few years but unfortunately recent changes by Meetup and Paypal have made our previous payment model increasingly difficult especially as we always try to keep our price as low as we can.
The cost will now be paid as a non-returnable deposit of £30 payable when you book, to which must be added Meetup booking fees. The balance of £69 will be payable by BACS 12 weeks prior to the event being 5th April 2024.
Account Code: 40848442 (balance payments only)

- Wainwright Bagging Weekend in the Lake DistrictYHA Honister Hause, Keswick£20.00
There are lots of ways to identify groups of hills the most well known being the "Munros", which are the highest hills in Scotland and the most recent being the "Ethels" which are all the hills with a certain level of prominence in the Peak District. There are also Hewitts, Nesbitts and Marilyns to name but a few. Bagging hills of a particular designation can give your walking an even bigger sense of purpose.
Alfred Wainwright was a prolific writer and walker (and Accountant) who fell in love with the Lakeland Fells on a visit in 1930 and from then on made them very much his own. His seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells, published between 1955 and 1966 remains the standard reference work to 214 of the fells of the English Lake District. He also created the Cumbria Coast to Coast long distance path amongst other achievements. His designation of what has become known as the Wainwrights was purely based on hills in the Lakeland Fells that he admired and thought worth visiting and writing about. This includes all the obvious ones but many less challenging ones as well so something here for everyone.
Our aim over a couple of years is to bag as many of those 214 Wainwrights as we possibly can and this is our first weekend with that agenda.
FRIDAY for those than can make it, we have a Wainwright bagging bonus walk for where we'll meet on the Eastern shore of Derwent Water around 10:30am. Just 6 low hanging fruit with the highest only just above 600m.
SATURDAY we walk straight from the hostel and plan to have two Wainwright baggers the toughest being still less than 10 miles with 7 biggies in our sights.
SUNDAY we again have at least two route options in mind the main going from Buttermere to Cat Bells and bagging 6 gorgeous Wainwrights on the way. A shorter option is also available.
MONDAY for those that can stay over in Ambleside (arrange yourselves at the YHA or elsewhere) we plan an optional extension to bag another EIGHT Wainwrights by tacking the very lovely Fairfield Horseshoe. We shall also open this up to other group members who want to join in.

- Awesome Skye in August 2024Broadford Youth Hostel, Isle of Skye£30.00
Having completed our 2023 visit to the wonderful Island of Skye and in spite of less than perfect weather we had a fabulous time with great feedback from everyone who took part.

We are therefore once again thrilled to have got an exclusive hire for August Bank Holiday weekend in 2024 to repeat this wonderful experience all over again.
Having done three trips now to the Glenbrittle Peninsula we are this time moving to the more accessible Broadford hostel which has more space for us and more comfortable accommodation and opens up many new walks for us that would have previously been too far. It also should prove easy for individuals to add extra nights if they want to make a longer break as well as facilitating wildlife boat trips and possible excursion to the neighboring Island of Raasay.
Tackling the so called Inaccessible Pinnacle won't be everybody's glass of malt as this is a very tough walk but for those who are suitably experienced and have a head for heights we will arrange local guides guide willing to take them which is essential and share the additional cost of that in a sensible way .
Lots of walks at every level including coast, forest and Red Cuillin areas predominantly. Something for everyone. The whole of Skye is absolutely stunning. Truly another world.
Also of course, the chance to stay on in the area or arrive earlier and make a longer break of it.
If you can travel up Thursday and maybe stay overnight in Fort William that makes it very easy to arrive in good time for a choice of walks on Friday near to the hostel, otherwise arrival is anytime after 6pm.
Most stayed in Fort William Backpackers Thursday night or a nearby B & B and going back, completed a Monday walk before driving to Glasgow to break the journey staying overnight in Eurohostel. Best to book these early as they do sell out but booking through Hostelworld only requires a small deposit with the balance paid on arrival.

Saturday some can tackle the famed Inaccessible Pinnacle sitting atop the Sgurr Dearg munro with the help of a professional guide whose costs will need to be shared out (£79pp expected but a bargain compared to doing it privately). Others can tackle a major walk like the Totternich Ridge (one of the most stunning walks in the UK) or maybe just the up and down of the Old Man of Storr followed by the delights of a Portree tea shop or a swim in the bay close to the hostel.
Sunday and Monday we have lots of scope for easier walks for some but some real toughies for those who feel the need.
Here are some of the possible routes:-

Nearer the time we will set up a whatsapp group for those attending to discuss walks and lift sharing so nobody's requirements get left out.
Everyone who has been agrees that it is an amazing spot.

The balance of £129 will be payable by BACS 12 weeks prior to the event being 31/05/2024.
