Join other members of the Manhattan Women's Social Meetup who enjoy playing Canasta! We will NOT be teaching canasta at this event. It is okay if you are a beginner, but you need to have taken lessons and/or have played often in the past.

We will have 4-5 tables of four. If any of you have 2 decks of cards, deck holders (that spin) and/or quiet, manual card shufflers that you could bring, please let me know by Meetup messaging me, calling or texting me at 612-998-9368 or leaving a message in the discussion part of this posting.

Do you ever wonder what you can do for disability awareness in your community?
Join us for a gathering to learn more about disability inclusion in the Jewish world and to get involved in spreading the word about JBI Library—an organization that connects thousands of people who are blind, low vision, or have a print disability to Jewish life!

We will meet at JBI’s NYC office at 110 East 30th Street on March 24 at 2 pm, where JBI staff will teach you about braille with a fun activity, share the rich history of JBI (much of which lives in its very building), and share information on how to become a JBI Ambassador as part of JBI’s newly launched program.

About JBI’s Ambassador Program
Every year, JBI Library makes it possible for thousands of people to participate in Jewish life, learning, and worship who would otherwise be excluded due to their disabilities. We hear day in and day out how important this access is to them. There are so many more community members who have disabilities that we want to serve, but awareness is our biggest obstacle. So many people could benefit from our services who simply don't know about us, and we need your help to change that and enrich their lives.

What you will do as an Ambassador:
Our Ambassador Program invites dedicated volunteers to explore their own local community and reach out, network, and dialogue with “connector” organizations - that is, groups and places that interact with a lot of people, some of whom may benefit from JBI Library services. Connectors can be JCCs, senior residences, nursing homes, hospitals, Synagogues, or schools. We also need help reaching older and sometimes isolated adults, and need everyone’s brainstorming power on that front.

Summary of The Book Club for Troublesome Women
By early 1960s standards, Margaret Ryan, Viv Buschetti, and Bitsy Cobb, suburban housewives in a brand-new "planned community" in Northern Virginia, appear to have it all. The fact that "all" doesn't feel like enough leaves them feeling confused and guilty, certain the fault must lie with them. Things begin to change when they form a book club with Charlotte Gustafson--the eccentric and artsy "new neighbor" from Manhattan--and read Betty Friedan's just-released book, The Feminine Mystique. Controversial and groundbreaking, the book struck a chord with an entire generation of women, helping them realize that they weren't alone in their dissatisfactions, or their longings, lifting their eyes to new horizons of possibility and achievement. Margaret, Charlotte, Bitsy, and Viv are among them. But is it really the book that alters the lives of these four very different women? Or is it the bond of sisterhood that helps them find courage to confront the past, navigate turmoil in a rapidly changing world, and see themselves in a new and limitless light?
