At Marmaray Meetups you find us chatting mainly in English, playing fun games and exploring the city of Istanbul. Many of us will have side conversations in other languages: Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, Russian, Ukranian, and much more. It's a chance to meet new people, connect, and have fun. We try to make our events along the line of Marmaray for easy access for everyone in Istanbul.

My friend Tala and I were brainstorming a new project we're excited to collaborate on. Part of it involves telling stories inspired by real ones. That reminded me of the Moth podcast ( https://www.themoth.org/ ), and this was the inspiration of this meetup.
The theme for now is about friendship. Go back into memory lane, and tell us about your first friend, or a friend you lost, or a friend you missed. Share with us a day you cherished, or a period of time you wish you can bring back. Tell us a story or share with us what friendship means to you. Tell us a story, or just listen to other stories and ask curious questions.

Language Exchange in Umraniye

We usually meet at 7pm, chat, play games and make friends and as we are doing them all we exchange cultures, languages and a different perspective of life at times. Human beings are born social. We are not built for a mechanical life of work, food, sleep and repeat. And nobody can break that cycle but ourselves.
