At Marmaray Meetups you find us chatting mainly in English, playing fun games and exploring the city of Istanbul. Many of us will have side conversations in other languages: Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, Russian, Ukranian, and much more. It's a chance to meet new people, connect, and have fun. We try to make our events along the line of Marmaray for easy access for everyone in Istanbul.

Language Exchange in Umraniye
Atolye Aposkal, Atatürk, Hilal Sk. 12/A, 34764 Ümraniye/İstanbul, Istanbul, TRHey you 🌿
If you’ve been wanting to practice English but don’t really enjoy formal or stressful environments, maybe this is your thing.
Our meet-ups are basically a cozy evening of conversations, games, random topics, new people, and sometimes unexpectedly deep discussions :)
We guide the flow with little conversation games and question cards so nobody has to sit there thinking “okay… now what do I say?”
And honestly, it’s never just English practice. People bring their own languages, cultures, accents, and personalities into the space. Sometimes one conversation somehow ends up moving between 3 languages at once and that’s kind of what makes these evenings feel safe and intimate instead of performative.
You don’t need perfect English.
You just need willingness to join in.Some people come very shy and leave realizing they actually spoke way more than they expected.
Last time one of our members said:
“Ümraniye really needed something like this. We don’t have spaces like this here. It feels like a breath of fresh air.”And honestly… that stayed with us. So if you’ve been looking for a softer way to practice English, meet kind people, and feel a little more connected in this huge city, come join us 💛
Our beautiful venue, Atölye Aposkal, is a cozy café just 5 minutes away from Ümraniye metro station, run by a lovely lady who bakes amazing gluten-free pastries.
With or without gluten, life is too short not to find new friends.

Let's write together
Vogs Coffee Bahariye, Osmanağa, Gen. Asım Gündüz Cd., 34000 Kadıköy/İstanbul, İSTANBUL, TRI have a podcast dadtimestories https://dadtimestories.me/en/ where I write, narrate and record Arabic stories (and sometimes English) for kids. My main audience is my daughter. But I have been struggling recently to commit to writing regularly. I used to attend a few writing clubs, and it's about time to host my own.
What will we do?
We'll choose prompts: a character, a location, an event... and write shorts in English. If you have something you are working on, we can read parts of it and give constructive criticism. If you prefer to just work on your own project, we can say hi's drink coffee, and work for an hour or so on our own pieces.
I want to make it a regular habit, whether there's enough people or just myself.
Let me hear your thoughts.
I am creating a whatsapp group for this to follow
