About us

Interested in art-making in Charlotte? Want to learn more about entrepreneurship in the arts? Or have a fun date-night with music, art, and food? Look no further! McColl Center is a local arts non-profit, with a gallery space, studios, and fully equipped labs with tools for all your art-making and educational needs!

McColl Center hosts workshops for people to learn about different art mediums, have fun, and meet new creatives. Keep on the lookout for workshops that are posted regularly. All workshops are taught by professional artists. No prior knowledge required unless stated in the description.

McColl also has a variety of different classes with subjects such as grant writing, tips on how to meet curators, and art-handling. These are posted regularly and are a good way to gain insight into the art-world and how to succeed in the arts.

Once a month, McColl hosts Front Lawn Friday! McColl Center throws its doors open as a HUB for creativity. Walk through the galleries, visit artists in their studios, hang out on the lawn, purchase beverages, and eat yummy food from a food truck. A perfect night for the family or a great date-night.

Held monthly, our Artist Talk + Tour offers visitors a chance to gather alongside McColl Center’s current Artists-in-Residence inside the studios where their work is actively unfolding.
Join us on Thursday, August 13th, and experience the artists’ studios, their processes, and their ideas. This is the place where art is made.

The evening begins informally, with a casual mix and mingle (drinks available at the cash bar), creating space for conversation before moving through the studios together where artwork is unfolding in real time.

Because the program is artist-led, no two tours unfold in quite the same way. Some artists speak openly and narratively about their lives and influences. Others focus on material or technical experimentation. Visitors might encounter painters, ceramicists, installation artists, filmmakers, social practice artists, sculptors, writers, or multidisciplinary practitioners whose work stretches across categories entirely. What connects them is the residency itself: a period of concentrated time, support, and risk-taking within a shared creative environment.
Artist Talk + Tour also reflects a larger philosophy at McColl Center: the idea that artistic practice grows through exchange and mentorship. Emerging artists share space with established voices. Community members enter conversations that are often hidden behind institutional or academic walls.
In this way, the Artist Talk + Tour becomes part of an ongoing ecosystem of mentorship, dialogue, and mutual influence: what we often describe as an “artist ladder,” an interconnected network of people learning from one another in real time.
This is where art is made.
