Details
Today often referred to as merely the US' "backyard", this talk will follow the unequal and changing relationships between the United States and Latin America from their respective colonial eras all the way to Neo-Colonial Empire. In particular, we'll look at the ways in which changing dynamics within the Capitalist system overall and the growth of the US into a global superpower shaped the different strategies used down the centuries.
The session will be led by Andrés Pertierra, a History PhD student at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, specializing in Cuban history and US-Cuban relations. His work has appeared in The Nation, Jacobin, ReWire News, and Dissent.
