Plant Powered Seniors-new book & Snackluck!
Details
Join us for a lively nutrition talk and discussion with Dr Charlyn Black, Professor Emeritus of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia and a physician, researcher, and educator with a longstanding interest in promoting health and preventing disease. She will be joined by dietician Vesanto Melina to discuss their soon to be released book "Plant Powered Seniors", co-authored with well known vegan dietitian Brenda Davis.
Charlyn and Vesanto will share information about how our nutritional needs change as we age, along with practical tips from their new book.
And to make the event tastier, Vesanto will put together a (VERY EASY) recipe from the book for us all to sample - a chocolate pudding made with Soyganic soft tofu, which is produced locally!
Come if you are over 50, or planning to be, or might like to help a senior who is a friend or relative. This event will provide practical tips to age in good health, reduce your risk of chronic disease, and contribute to a healthier planet!
You must be registered to attend. The event will be held at Vancouver Co-housing, an intentional co-housing community. As usual, we request a $2 donation for Vancouver Cohousing. Also please bring a vegan snack but be sure it includes NO PEANUTS. (Cohousing has at someone with an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts.)
What's a snackluck? It's a low-stress potluck where each person brings a snack to share. Could be cookies, fresh fruit, veggies and dip, whatever you want. Just please make sure your snack contains no animal products--that means no meat, dairy, whey, gelatin, eggs, and seafood--so that everyone can partake.
Take note: While we're big fans of the plant-based diet, everyone who has registered is welcome, from omnivore to vegan (no pets please).
Parking is free, but as there is construction next door, you may need to park around the corner.
