Hike & Meditate in Sibley Volcanic Park

Details

Please join me as we expand our appreciation of Bay Area nature by hiking and meditating at Sibley Volcanic Preserve. This park is a powerful spot in the hills, the site of a massive ancient volcano. The area was later turned into a large quarry. But Nature has worked to reclaim the area and now it is an inspiring if almost moonscaped/altered space, and still possible to connect with and see its ancient origins.

I recommend bringing a brimmed hat and sunscreen, as much of the hike and the spot we'll meditate in will be exposed. The terrain can be pretty rocky, so bring shoes with stronger soles. The distance is a bit shorter than what we normally have hiked and is mostly flat.

We meet at the parking lot on Skyline near the Grizzly Peak Rd intersection. Plan to arrive by 9:45am so we can begin by 10.

Call or text me if you're having problems finding us (my phone # is in the reminder email sent to group members).

Bring a plastic bag or similar to place on the ground, and a small cushion, rolled up jacket or backpack to help you sit comfortably erect during the meditation. Please wear good walking shoes for the hike (sturdier soles, non-slip tread) and appropriate thermal layered clothing which allow you to sit comfortably for ~20 minutes following a hike where you may sweat. A small water bottle is recommended.

The hike distance is approx 2 miles. We are usually out by noon almost on the dot. The speed is leisurely to moderate, within the average person's ability.

Please let me know at least 2 days in advance if you have physical challenges I should know about, and of course, always check with your doctor in advance.
