Sunday Morning Meditation
Kosala Kadampa Buddhist Center, 101 Cosgrove Avenue, Suite 142, Chapel Hill, NC, USIntroduction to Buddhism: Meditation and The Buddhist Way of Life
Meditation classes for everyone with Kadampa Buddhist teacher Ann Gerhardt and modern Buddhist monk Gen Kelsang NorbuSundays, 10:30-11:30am, August 16 - October 4
“In his Dharma teachings, Buddha advises us not to seek happiness outside ourself, but to establish it within our mind.” - Introduction to Buddhism, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
We all want to be happy all the time, but we normally seek happiness outside ourself. No matter how much we seek happiness outside ourself, we will never find real, lasting happiness, because happiness is a part of the mind that experiences inner peace, or peace of mind. Therefore, the only way to find real, lasting happiness is to establish it within our mind.
How do we establish happiness within our mind? To do this, we have to develop and maintain a peaceful mind. This is the main purpose of meditation and the Buddhist way of life.
In these introductory classes, Ann and Gen Norbu will introduce the basic foundations of the Buddhist way of life, including teachings on the mind, reincarnation, karma, and of course meditation. Start at the beginning of the series if you can, but if you miss the beginning then start when you are able.

Do you meditate, or have you at least tried? More and more people are realizing that meditation is essential for our peace and happiness. A daily meditation practice doesn’t have to be difficult, and meditating doesn’t have to take a long time. (In fact, less might be more, so to speak, in the beginning).
In these classes, Gen Norbu will introduce the foundations of meditation practice. Each class will include at least one guided breathing meditation for ten or fifteen minutes, teachings, and at least one guided meditation on the teachings. Topics will include how to start training in meditation, as well as how to progress in meditation practice. Start at the beginning of the series if you can, but if you miss the beginning then start when you are able.

“You should know sufferings. You should abandon origins. You should attain cessations. You should practice the path.” - Buddha, Sutra of the Four Noble Truths
Do you ever feel like you just want to be happy, but the harder you try to get certain things, the more unhappy you become? Usually, we tend to blame other people or external situations for our suffering and problems, but if we let go of the distractions and negativities in our own mind, external influences will have less and less power to make us unhappy.
These introductory classes will help us to see the underlying causes of our mental pain and dissatisfaction, then take a solution-oriented approach to letting go of the bad mental habits that keep us stuck. Start at the beginning of the series if you can, but if you miss the beginning then start when you are able.
