Make art & get creative at Hortus Botanicus Leiden
Hortus botanicus, Rapenburg 73, Leiden, NLThis event is for anyone who wants to tap into their creativity and have a great afternoon making art while meeting new people. And what better place to do that outside in summer than at the beautiful botanical gardens of Hortus Bortanicus Leiden.
Your host will first guide you through a few fun activities to get your creative juices flowing, then you will make your own unique art piece inspired by what surrounds us. There will be a range of materials which you can experiment with, and then choose from to make your final art piece.
Art materials provided: oil pastels, different types of papers and card, paints, brushes, pens, markers and pencils.
Price: €20 (for all art materials provided)

Please note: Food and drink will not be provided at this event, so please bring anything you might want to consume or share with the group :)
Details: We’ll meet at the entrance of Hortus Botanicus, and walk together to a spot where we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and make art.
You are welcome to arrive earlier to explore the gardens or stay after the event. It is a beautiful botanical garden and we encourage you to walk around it! :)
Hortus Botanicus Leiden: is the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands and one of the oldest in the world. It’s an official part of Leiden University, and has a fantastic range of greenhouses, different flowers and plants.
You will need to purchase a ticket to enter Hortus or if you have a Museumkaart you can use that and enter for free. Tickets are €13.50 and are available to purchase on the day itself. You can find more information on their website: https://hortusleiden.nl/
What about the weather? Because we'll be outdoors, this event is weather dependent. If heavy rain is expected, we may need to reschedule to a different date or time. If you're unable to make the new date, we'll issue you a full refund.
Can I come by myself? Absolutely! Most people usually come alone to Art Club events to meet new people.
The atmosphere: will be very laid-back on the day. We hope you will leave the event feeling relaxed, like you have re-connected with your creativity and with a handful of new friends.

Sip & paint: Van Gogh's sunflowers - Still life observation
Leidse Lente, Haagweg 4A11, http://galeriecafeleidselente.nl, Leiden, NLJoin us after work at this paint and sip session inspired by Van Gogh. We'll be using real sunflowers as our muse and practise observational skills as we portray them onto canvas.
During the workshop: Your host will first guide you through a few short fun activities to get your hands and observational skills warmed up, then you will make your own unique art piece on canvas using acrylic paint.
This painting workshop is designed to be playful, relaxed, and welcoming for all levels.

👉 Drinks and food are available from the venue and not included in the ticketAbout Van Gogh’s Sunflowers: this still life series is among Van Gogh’s most famous. They say the paintings were a way for him to experiment with colour combinations but they had a deeper significance for him too, symboling elements like summer and life, as well as representing "gratitude" 🌻
His paintings are no doubt full of energy, movement, interesting brush strokes and colours. There is so much we can be inspired from to make our own unique painting.
And, did you know, 4 of his sunflower paintings are on public display are in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam? Perhaps you could even go check them out before the event to get your creative juice flowing :)
Who is the event for? This event is open to those of all artistic levels. Your host will guide you through the basics of using the different materials provided and be there to share tips and best practices.
