Art Club Leiden

This event is for anyone who wants to tap into their creativity more.

Creativity is something we all have, but as adults we can easily become disconnected from it through the routines, responsibilities and pressures of everyday life. This meet-up is an opportunity to slow down, step away from the usual demands of daily life and reconnect with our natural curiosity and imagination.

Set within the beautiful Hortus Botanicus, we’ll use nature and creative materials as invitations to explore, experiment and play, without the pressure of creating something “perfect” or needing any previous art experience.

It’s also a chance to meet new people, share ideas and enjoy the simple experience of making and discovering something together. The aim is to leave feeling refreshed, inspired and perhaps a little more connected to your own creativity. ✨

🎨 What we'll be doing

Your host will guide you through several fun and relaxed activities designed to get your creative juices flowing.

We’ll begin by exploring parts of the botanical garden together, taking inspiration from the colours, shapes, textures and details around us. We’ll then return to our creative materials and experiment with different ways of interpreting what we’ve noticed.

There’s no right or wrong way to do it, the focus is on exploring, playing and seeing where your ideas take you, rather than creating a technically perfect piece of art.

Art materials provided
All art materials are included in the event price, including:

• Oil pastels
• Different types of paper and card
• Paints and brushes
• Pens and markers
• Pencils

🥪 Food & drink
Food and drink will not be provided at this event, so please bring anything you would like to eat or drink during the session. You’re also welcome to bring something to share with the group if you’d like. :)

📍 Where?
We’ll meet at the entrance of Hortus Botanicus Leiden.

You’re very welcome to arrive earlier to explore the gardens in more depth, or stay afterwards to continue exploring. It’s a beautiful botanical garden, and we definitely encourage you to take some time to wander around and enjoy it!

Hortus Botanicus Leiden is the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands and one of the oldest in the world. It is part of Leiden University and has a fantastic variety of greenhouses, flowers and plants.

🎟️ Entrance to Hortus Botanicus:
You will need to purchase a separate ticket to enter Hortus Botanicus.

A standard ticket is €13.50 and can be purchased on the day. If you have a Museumkaart, you can use this to enter for free.

☀️ What about the weather?
Because part of the event will take place outdoors, the event is weather dependent.

Can I come by myself?
Absolutely!
Most people come to Art Club events by themselves, so you definitely won’t be the only one. It’s a relaxed way to meet new people while doing something creative together.

The atmosphere:
The atmosphere will be very laid-back and welcoming. There’s no pressure to be “good at art”, and no expectation that you need to know anyone beforehand.

We hope you’ll leave feeling relaxed, creatively re-energised and with a handful of new friends.

Join us after work at this paint and sip session inspired by Van Gogh. We'll be using real sunflowers as our muse and practise observational skills as we portray them onto canvas.

During the workshop: Your host will first guide you through a few short fun activities to get your hands and observational skills warmed up, then you will make your own unique art piece on canvas using acrylic paint.

This painting workshop is designed to be playful, relaxed, and welcoming for all levels.
