Walking and Nature Tour of the Hunter Wetlands Centre at Shortland

Join me for a delightful walk exploring the Hunter Wetlands Centre with its marshes, ponds, and woodlands that are haven to hundreds of migratory birds, and a favourite destination for nature enthusiasts and photographers.

If you’re new in town we’ll be guided by one of the many dedicated volunteers sharing their knowledge about the ongoing work to restore and protect this unique ecosystem stretching over 45ha of the Hunter Estuary. There will be opportunities to meet the magpie geese, learn about the care of reptiles, and discover new foods in the bush tucker garden.

The walk is easy going on graded paths, with shaded seating areas and interesting bird watching stops.

Back at the Centre we’ll have time to see the current art exhibition ‘Contemplating Nature’, and enjoy coffee and conversation with new friends on The Café veranda.

This is a family friendly event, but no pets please.

I will meet you inside the main entry building near the reception desk at 10.15am.
Entry fees for our group are $7 for adults and $5 for children, plus $6 each for our guide.

We’ll set out together at 10.30am.

Altogether the distance is about 1.5km, and the paths are flat and generally wheelchair accessible.

Around 11.45am we’ll be back at the Cafe to enjoy a chat with coffee and something to eat.

We’ll go ahead whether it’s sunny or raining.
