Newcastle Art Gallery has just reopened after its long-awaited expansion, and it's worth celebrating together. Join me for a guided tour of the transformed spaces — works by First Nations artists, major commissions from local talent, permanent collection favourites, and some wonderfully quirky ceramics. Our knowledgeable gallery guide will take us through it all.

Beyond the gallery we’ll take an easy pace exploring the many heritage buildings and public sculptures of the city’s cultural precinct. On our way to the harbour there’ll be lots of creative opportunities for photography and fun selfies inspired by memorable art and architecture.

We'll finish at the water’s edge, settling in on the terrace at Rydges Hotel for coffee and conversation with new and old friends.

Agenda
I’ll meet you outside the Gallery main entry at 1.15pm. Entry and the tour are free.

At 1.30pm we’ll head in to join our guide for a tour across both the ground and first floor gallery spaces, and an introduction to the works currently on exhibition.

Around 2.30pm we'll make our way out to the Civic Fountain, and on through Wheeler Place and the Museum precinct with stops along the way to appreciate the best of the city’s public art and architecture.

We'll then find our way through to Honeysuckle and the harbourside terrace at Rydges where we’ll have time to relax, socialise and enjoy a coffee together.

The walk is around 1km on paved paths with one flight of stairs at the Civic Fountain.
