Swamp Clips | Guided Walk & Nature Video morning at Hunter Wetlands with Coffee
Details
Join me for a delightful walk exploring the Hunter Wetlands at Shortland and share the fun of making Swamp Clips - short creative phone videos of wetland life. There'll be plenty of inspiring moments as we set out together with two highly experienced guides and find the best locations for flocks of magpie geese, tiny migratory birds, local lizards and turtles, unusual colourful fungi or simply taking in the restful wetland vistas.
Our guides will be able to share their knowledge of this unique ecosystem and its restoration, as well the valuable community education work at the Centre. If you choose there’ll be an opportunity later on to submit your unique Swamp Clips for the inaugural Swamp Film Festival being held in June.
At the finish of our walk we’ll enjoy time on The Spoonbill Café veranda for coffee, conversation with new and old friends, and sharing our favourite takes.
No experience is needed. Phone videos are ideal, or bring along your preferred camera.
Agenda
I'll meet you inside the main entry building near the reception desk at 9.30AM.
Cost is $13 per adult (entry + guide).
We’ll set out together at 9.45AM for the small Animal House with its many intriguing reptiles, frogs and turtles.
From there we’ll follow a trail taking in the quieter places like the bush chapel, the melaleuca rest area and the bush tucker garden where tiny migratory birds and honeyeaters come out to forage. Along the way we’ll be able to stop by Egret Tower for an elevated view, walk along the bank of Ironbark Creek, visit the rare freckled ducks and explore one of the bird hides. It’s also a good time of year to find unusual photogenic fungi by the path.
Around 11.30AM we’ll return to the Café and have time to enjoy socialising together, with coffee and something to eat.
Altogether the walk is about 1.5km on easy going graded paths. There are frequent shaded seating places and the paths are generally wheelchair accessible.
We’ll go ahead whether it’s sunny or raining. This is a family friendly event, but no pets please.
