TOUR OF ROMSEY ABBEY

Details

Join me on this Heritage open day tour of this beautiful Abbey This is a ticked event and I have 10 free tickets The tour lasts 1hour and 30minutes then we can go and get a cuppa somewhere People who do not want to do the tower trip do not have to but can still come
Since it's foundation as a Benedictine nunnery in Anglo-Saxon times, Romsey Abbey has witnessed the complete history of England. The magnificent 13th century Romanesque architecture survived the Reformation and the building has been a working parish church for over 900 years. The links to royalty and many connections to the history of the Romsey and the Hampshire area make it a fascinating place to visit.

There are so many items of interest, from a very rare and nationally signicant rood dating from about AD 1000 to a stained glass window commemorating Florence Nightingale that was installed in 2020.

The tours on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th September will include a visit to the ringing chamber in the tower. The tour on Monday 15th will not and will be at ground level. It should be noted that access to the ringing chamber is via a narrow spiral staircase of approximately 120 uneven steps.
