JASNA March Meeting

Hello Janes! This event is not hosted by our group (disclaimer: Meetup automatically lists me as the host, but it is not so!) but JASNA (Jane Austen Society of North America) has given me permission to post it. It sounds like a wonderful event! I hope to see you all there!

"Good afternoon fellow Janeites! We'd like to welcome any new members to our group or people who we were lucky enough to meet at the Jane Austen Fest in Mount Dora!

We hope that many of our new friends and old will be able to join us on Saturday, March 9th from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Maitland Library. We are planning to play Whist and some regency inspired board games such as The Parlor Game (a fun Pride & Prejudice version of Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity) and other Jane Austen inspired games. In addition, we'll be providing getting to know you questions (Jane and everyday related) for each table to discuss as we all get better acquainted with each other.

Come as you are (modern day) or use the opportunity to take your favorite regency day dress out for another spin. There will be light refreshments and you are welcome to bring some as well if you would like.

Whist is my personal favorite as you can tell it was just invented as a way to gossip without having to truly pay attention to your cards OR lose money! There are plenty of opportunities to chat.

Whist lesson You can find other versions on youtube but this seemed the simplest and easiest to follow.

We usually begin with a short business meeting at 11 so if you are running late for any reason, please feel free to come. Even if the round of games has started we will work you in as soon as we can and people can always visit on the side, still answering questions even if they aren't playing!
