About us
We strongly recommend that you access the IHC Website before reading further. Besides a comprehensive history, photos and other pertinent information about the Indianapolis Hiking Club (IHC), our website contains a complete listing of all our scheduled hikes, over 2000 annually. Each of our Hike Schedule events in Meetup (and there is an event for every day) provides a link to all hikes scheduled for that day. Meetup members may be deceived into believing that only the organizer and a few others will show up for a hike. However, IHC members (over 570 strong) do not sign up for hikes on this Meetup site, and do not otherwise preregister when attending hikes. If they wish to attend any hike in our schedule they simply show up, as can Meetup members. Typically, quite a few IHC members show up for every hike, otherwise the hike would not be in our schedule. Check out our latest club and hike statistics at IHC Statistics. IHC members routinely welcome Meetup members and other guests. So, you will not be alone. We look forward to meeting you.
Our club, which on January 23, 2026 celebrated our 69th anniversary, has more than 570 active members in central Indiana and schedules more than 2,000 hikes every year (about six hikes a day) in the Indianapolis area and surrounding counties, only a portion of which are listed on Meetup. We also schedule social events, including a summer picnic, General Assembly and Winter Banquet. About six times a year our club also sponsors multi-day hiking trips to Indiana state parks, national parks, other states and international locations. Join us on any hike or away trip as a guest. Everyone 18 years or older is welcome as are children and grandchildren as long as an adult is willing to take responsibility for them. You do not have to be invited to join us as a guest and there is no fee. Simply show up for any hike at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. It is a club tradition to start the hike "on-time", but please no pets unless the hike is designated as a "pet hike". We hope to see you soon.
Joining Meetup is not the same as being a member of the Indianapolis Hiking Club. We have only two requirements to join our club; you must be 18 years old and pay annual dues. That's it. There is no one time membership fee, just annual dues which are very modest; $25 for an individual and $40 for a family. If you choose to join our club, you can pay your dues by check or Zelle electronic payment though your bank. After you become a member your hiking mileage with the club will be tracked and you will be eligible to attend events like the Winter Banquet only available to members. Prior to joining you are welcome to hike as a guest as often as you wish – again no fee. On our website, Facebook and Instagram pages you can learn a lot about our long history, hiking and social events, and see lots of photos of our members in action. A copy of our new member application can also be found on our website. What are you waiting for?
