Books & Breakfast
Copain Bakery - Southpark, 6601 Carnegie Blvd, Charlotte, NC, USJoin us for artisan coffee, a scrumptious breakfast, and a fun and relaxing non-fiction book discussion.
We’ll meet one Saturday a month. Join us as your schedule allows.
What’s the vibe?
A group of friends gathering together to learn, share insights, and talk about what actually works and interests us in real life.
We will discuss a different book each month. The genres will vary; personal finance, self-help, maybe a biography, a historical account or perhaps a hysterical account 😉. We’re open to book suggestions. All are welcome, whether you’ve read the book or not!
The featured book for this session is Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked
by Adam AlterWhat’s the book about? Adam Alter (NYU psychology and marketing professor) examines the growing phenomenon of behavioral addiction — compulsive engagement not with substances, but with technology and experiences like social media, smartphones, email, and video streaming. Alter argues that many modern products are deliberately engineered to be maximally addictive, using techniques honed by tech companies to keep users hooked, often at the cost of their wellbeing, relationships, and mental health. The book traces the psychological mechanisms behind these compulsions, explores their societal impact (particularly on younger generations), and offers practical strategies for individuals, families, and businesses to build healthier relationships with technology while still benefiting from its connective power.
